Blown motor

My car has 43000 on it and the motor is done. The car is bone stock Ive had it since april of this year and it has been in the shop atleast once a month the trans has been replaced now the motor. My plan was to put a blower on it this winter when the warranty expires. I am really doubting the abilities of this motor now I may just leave it alone. There is no excuse for a lost motor at 43000 when its maintained at the dealership and is BONE STOCK!!!! I dont care if it was raced around town every day which it wasnt. How many hard miles do alot of you blower guys have on your cars?

Its always something different I own my own shop so I'm always on top of getting things fixed under warranty so I dont have to fix it. This is what I can remember having done the I drive knob came off trim was peeling on the steering wheel and drivers door handle drivers axle seal was leaking trans was rattling exhaust header collectors leaking window exterior trim was cracking emissions light was on 3x they replaced several evap valves new pads and rotors. The motor sounds like it has piston slap possibly a valve train issue but it sounds too slow for that. I noticed a ticking noise on cold start the last few starts so I brought it in for that the axle seal and the window trim for the second time. I picked it up 4 days later with everything fixed and BMW saying they couldnt hear the tick. I said ok no problem maybe its just me and drove the car to my shop 5 miles away. When I was on the freeway I noticed the noise and it was getting louder. I pulled into my shop and didnt even stop I could hear it very clear bouncing off the building. I turned right around and drove back to BMW and took the shop foreman Avery for a ride. He said what I was already thinking piston slap.

So the motor isn't blown but is making noise? Piston slap? from your description of Reno, I assume its hot and the car being warm I don't think piston slap is the issue. What year is the car? Is it the bearings? Does the tapping noise correlate with RPM or stay the same? Need more info

Without taking it apart its all just speculation but it sounds like piston slap. Its not heavy like rod knock sounds too slow and low pitch for valve train.

My money is on a bearing problem.
Good luck.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

E46M3 - Rod Bearing Issues
E39M5 - Rod Bearing Issues
E60M5 - Rod and Main Bearing Issues
E9xM3 - It's likely a bearing...

Good luck and hopefully they replace it. 43k is really low for a bearing issue...

Sounds like a used car and competition edition ('11+ Model Year), unless you put 43k in a short amt. of time.

Do you know the car's history? Anything to uncover there?

OP - I'm sorry to hear about your issue. I have experienced a blown motor (NOT on a BMW) and understand your frustration. Please let us know any details you uncover so that we can be sure we know the warning signs and any preventative things that can be done.

If this winter was going to be the end of the warranty, then I think it's 08?

A used car can have any number of hidden problems that only become clear after ownership. It seems almost certain that this car was treated quite harshly by the past owner(s). It may even have had major modifications done to it that were removed and put back to stock prior to the sale.

Sorry to hear you are having issues. You can take at least some comfort in the fact you have a warranty. And looking at the bright side, you'll have a both a brand new engine and transmission (and whatever else you may have had replaced on these monthly dealership visits).
