I was caught out on the rural backroads in a blizzard last week (southwestern Ontario). It was a bit of a hairy drive with the Michelin PSSs on!

Just put on a set 245/40/18 Michelin Xi3 on all four corners this past weekend. Might be a little early, but I can't risk that scenario again, being that my M3 is my DD. Also, these tires seem to work superbly in the wet and cold. Quiet, too.

Looking forward to seeing how the Xi3 perform this winter. Bring on the snow

Car was reading -3.5C this morning on the drive in. Thankfully, it was dry. Supposed to warm up this week so it looks like I will make it to November before putting on the snows.

How long does it take for most of you to get your oil temp to proper operating temperatures during the winter season? Do most of you wait or just don't care because fm what I've read, waiting for the oil to warm up will help greatly with the rod bearing issues.

Manual suggests that gentle driving is the best way to warm the engine/tranny up and to not let the car sit and idle.

So, I start driving right away but hold off revving above 4k until the temp gauge is up past the 1/4 mark.

Cool

Riva MX7

Which unfortunately didn't have 9.5" width, so I used 8.5", which actually might be helpful in the snow. In the rear 10".

These 19" are beauties and seem like decent quality when I examined them in person, about on par with VMR I would say. Very nice finish. I'm getting the black & white BMW caps. Looks better than the colour ones, don't you think?

Tires:

Pirelli Winter 270 Sottozero Serie II

I lucked out on the tires and got some of the last remaining stock of these bad boys. Tires good for rain in coldish weather with ice/snow performance when you need it is just what I was looking for. They only had 255/275, which is fine by me. We'll see how the wider tire looks on the thinner front rim. The rear wheel has an offset of 38mm, so I might get a couple spacers soon.

Hi Everyone. I hope someone can help me out. I put winters tires on my 2011 m3 sedan comp pkg. They came off my 2006 m3 comp pkg. The size is 225/45/R18 all around. I started to notice that the car is very unstable at high speeds. Do I need wider tires in the rear or all around? I hope this does not do any damage to the car.

It won't damage the car but it is a bit high and narrow for my liking. The set up will be real good in the snow just not at high speed.

When you change the rubber I'd go with 245/40/18 or even better for dry weather would be 255/40/18

I'm running a very aggressive 265/35/18

Michelin Pilot Alpin 245/40/R18 on replica rims (square set up)

Two major snowfalls already and these tires performed flawlessly
