Checking out an 09 E90 this weekend, advice?
Hi everyone,
Checking out (potentially) my first M3 on saturday: http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...62587639&Log=0 Seems to be priced a couple thousand over blue book, but I still want to give it a test drive. What concerns me is the "dealer vehicle" history on the carfax, as that seems pretty vague to me. Any advice? Looks like the oil hasnt been changed in quite a while, but was done under 1000 miles ago. I'm not familiar with whether or not letting these cars sit for a good amount of time can have any negative effects. Also, would it be possible to purchase an extended BMW warranty on an older car like this with it's current mileage (I imagine this has been discussed before, but I can't seem to come up with anything)? Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) if possible at a trusted mechanic. Now that said I didn't get one done when I got mine last august but I had my cousin run the VIN at BMW and he said it was good. I went off of that and he said it was still under the extended warranty that was with it. So I think maybe you should try getting more info at BMW and see if there is still warranty on it.

How many miles? It does seem to be priced fairly high compared to what I have seen on the forum. They keep telling me via email that the price is non-negotiable, which concerns me slightly. I guess I'll have to see what I can do on saturday. |

Seem s bit high to me. I also live in Canada where these are typically priced a bit more aggressively too from what I've seen.
I just picked mine up but haven't taken delivery yet as they are waiting on parts. 2008 E90 Jerez Black / Blk Novillo 6 SMT premium Nav winter pkg premium sound Idrive Technology pkg EDC 47k miles I paid $36 CDN ($32.3 K US at todays exchange rate) I bought extended warranty on top of that. They let me go and additional 4 year/60k (KM). I personally think they are asking a bit much for it based on all the research id done. But i'm not as familiar with the market down there I would agree I'd get it inspected. I bought mine from a BMW dealership and it was just safetied so they did new front brakes all the fluids and a few other engine things. (O2 sensor, thermostat etc) I'd also run the VIN# and see exactly what comes in the car as I don't trust the dealerships to list everything. |

Pretty low miles, so it may be difficult to get under 40k. However it's been a long winter and these cars are only getting older
Drive it and see if they work with you on price in person. If you get what seems like a fair deal, buy it and enjoy it as soon as possible. |

The price seems way high to me as well... if the price is non-negotiable, I'd look elsewhere. You can find a bunch of cars for sale well under $40K.
A few weeks ago when I bought my E90 M3 with 79K miles, I also bought a 2yr/24K mile extended warranty through USAA. They use Assurant... if you are a vet, this would be a good option. |

Thanks everyone. I checked out the vin, looks like premium/cold weather/technology are all on it, which the dealer told me as well. I'm particularly interested in this one because it's relatively close to me and I'm hoping to trade in my STi for it. Still need to check out the warranty, but I imagine getting a third party shouldn't be too difficult if a BMW one isn't attainable, although I have never done something like that before haha.

Still might be worthwhile a grand or so higher if the OP can get a sales tax break by trading in his car locally or just doesn't want to travel. But if truly non-negotiable I'd keep shopping. |
