Should I pick it up! M3
Very confused/disappointed
Need your input/Help Please Couple of months ago, I fell in love with the M3 convertible. I knew exactly what I wanted, so I went and payed a deposit and listed my options. * Dark grey (forgot the actual name) * Red fox Extended * CF texture * iPod "Must have" as in Dubai, they have no clue why people love iPods! * 19" wheels , well, it was by default that I should get it as standard * DCT - New Auto gear, and it will cost me.. * Basically, full spec M3. All good, except when I went to see my M3 today. I had a feeling that something would go wrong. I was really hoping to see the new iDrive. So, what I got is the same exterior color, same as requested interior red fox Ext. But 18" wheels, no cup holders, no iDrive. and that was really disappointing for me. The question is, should I re-order my M3 for an iDrive + 19" + Cupholders. or should I pick it up? Your input will be greatly appreciated Thanks |

The 18's are standard not the 19's. New Idrive? I have no clue if it will be on the coupes or not. Car looks nice anyways. I like how you said DCT, new auto gear.

oh no don't get me wrong i'm just saying because some DCT owners don't like their trasmission being called "auto" that's all. Congrats on the car if you plan to keep it.

If ordering a new car and waiting is only a couple of months, I say wait.
Instant gratification is cool but short-lived. Having regrets suck. If it were just the wheels, I'd probably get the car as is, but if you really want the new iDrive and cupholders, I don't think either will be easy to retrofit even if possible, so I say order a new one and wait.

I noticed something: no cup holder!. Where is the cup holder in the first pic? Hahaha, Cup holders are only in the US: An American icon; drinking while driving.

He said he ordered it but the car arrived without them. In some markets outside the US, cupholders aren't standard equipment. It's standard for Americans because we love our beverages while driving, together with reading the morning paper, eating breakfast, shaving, and talking on the phone while yelling at the asshole who cut you off because you were going so slow from all the distractions.

My response to the OP is if you're paying that much for a car you might as well get everything you want. I did and it was well worth the wait.

yep ask for the discount and get yourself some wheels later on aftermarket from someplace like HRE P40's or something! cup holders? Am sure there are many aftermarket alternatives to this to include the old plastic on that hangs in your window sill if needed. Enjoy

The only things missing are the 19" Polished Wheels which would look better than the 18" Gun Metal on Sparkling Graphite. Basically no contrast, all dark gray. The 2009 3 Series/M3's get the iDrive 2.0, which has a hard Drive instead of DVD Disk for Nav and Music, plus a HiRez Display and tweaked controller.
Have the dealer pull 19" RIM's off another M3 and trade in your 18" RIMs at no cost. They can order New 19" for the other car from BMW to cover their mistake. As to the iDrive....you can hook up an iPod Touch and there is your Hard Drive for Music. Carbon Fiber Roof on an M3 Convertible? I don't think they make that...but what a cool idea!!! CF Roof is only on the M3 Coupe. Keep the car....it is gorgeous and unfortunately Sparkling Graphite is not available on the 2009 M3 anymore. You would have to change colors. I would go Space Gray for Dubai. Dark colors get to hot. Melted CD's in the interior are not uncommon. Congrats on the beautiful rocket ship. Cheers, |

My opinion: Replace the 18" with something different. I prefer not having cupholders; it's a small thing anyway I wouldn't worry about it. So, it comes down to the iDrive. If it's really important to get the new one then re-order. Otherwise, get this one.

Thanks guys for your input. Really helped
Some comments had made me 100% confirmed that I need to reorder my M3. I went couple of times to check it out, and reconfirm with the dealer about my spec. I could not see anywhere in my order about the 19", + the cup holders are usually standard as the dealer told me "There fault", but for some reason, cup-holder was not standard in this car. Regarding the wheels, my intention is to change the wheels to something like deep dish type. + the cup holder does not make the extended fox red look nice. Mostly, it's my imagination problem. I did not make sure that I had to spec the cup holder or the 19", and the iDrive 2.0 is not yet released when I placed my car 4 months ago. So, today, it is parked in my garage, and I am a happy new M3 owner. I will update you guys with some photos soon. Thank you guys again, looking forward to share with you my M3 review/photos/tuning. |
