You guys are looking at it all wrong. It's IS an investment... just not a financial one. It's an investment in your mental health, fun and enjoyment! It will make you happier and that may actually make you live longer... the best ROI of all.

According to the yahoo article, "... One example renowned for holding resale value: the Mini Cooper, which retains 52% of its value after five years..."

52% over 5 years? BS! Good luck finding a 2006 Mini Cooper S (ex. $21k new, no options) for less than $16k

Depreciating assets can be investments. Look at Avis, Hertz, etc. and leasing companies like GMAC and BMW Finance. The key is deriving income greater than the depreciation.

To buy and hold a depreciating asset without a revenue stream is NOT an investment.

Well said, awesome way to look at it! i feel much better about the purchase now

besides, i do, do quite a bit of investing and this shit stresses the hell outta me...When you're down ur stressed (cuz ur losing), when you're up, you're stressed (cuz you can't decide to book your gains or hold), when you're flat, you're stressed (cuz u not making any money while everyone else is)...basically a mental f*ck no matter how you put it.

heck i NEED this car for my sanity!

focus on the positive

My m3 appreciates every day...or should I say, I appreciate my m3 everyday...

Value (and beauty) is in the eye of the beholder...I don't care what Kelly's Bluebook or anyone else says. It's mine, I love it.

I sold that M3 in February 2010 to a fellow here in Ontario. I maintain my cars well treat them with kid gloves. So the car looked just like when I purchased it. I sold the car with 64,000 KM on the odometer for $25,000- Canadian.

I think it was a good deal (I wish I kept it, just did not have the space in my 2 car garage I had to make room for my new toy).

+1

Very true, also the last shirt has no pockets so live every day as if it is your last and do enjoy life to the fullest

as a side point and off topic, I just lost a very good friend. He was only 28 and suffered a very unfortunate accident.

You may have seen the link, if not CLICK here for details

So don't think of the money enjoy the car and of course always drive safely

Classic sign of a bubble. When you read about it in USA Today and Bimmerpost, short whatever it is.

Agreed, after all the money I have put into this car I would never come close to getting any of it back, even if I took the parts off and sold them. I never bought it for that reason anyway, hoping to just have fun at the track as she gets older and better, same as me.
