Software is not required but highly recommended for those with bolt-ons such as pulleys, Performance filters, etc. We recommend software from GIAC and perform our own flashing in house as well as bench-flashing.

I'm not sure what you guys are talking about.
Dinan currently offers an UDP for both the M5 and M6, and has an aggresssive one coming for the M3 anytime now. Steve's original postion on UDP's was from 10 years ago, when the attached systems effected were total different than todays motors. PS: Mines on order

Pullies are only a "no-no" if the pulley functions as a harmonic balancer, which it doesn't on our cars.

None that I've seen anywhere here in the US under normal or aggressive driving.

Venders aside, please. Which pulleys do most guys go with? I'm looking at AA vs. RE?

As far as I know if your pulley functions as a harmonic balancer, it is only doing so for driver comfort, and not to balance the engine as the name implies.

The REs use a black hard anodizing process to emulate an OEM appearance.

As per the crank pulley - little to no difference at all.

If you are interested in incremental hp then a pulley is worth the money. The gains you get are not great if you look at it alone but if you are building up your beast and want to do all the bolt ons- its a no brainer plus its relatively cheap.
Got mine from Tom at EAS- free install (at the time) and great service.

That is not the case..... a harmonic balancer cancels out harmful harmonics that would eventually lead to fatigue failure of the crankshaft. If you removed a harmonic balancer and replaced it with a UDP you would not have a instant failure but you would eventually have a failure. The S65 does not use a balancer attached to the crank pulley so you are ok. The S65 is balanced Internally. |

I am however curious what engines are not internally balanced? Now most production cars don't have each piece individually balanced, they are just factory produced and supposed to end up within a certain tolerance. None are perfect from the factory. But each engine will be out of balance at a different place, and that makes me wonder how a generic external balancer can work on all engines?

Isn't he stock crank pulley silver/metallic? The other pullies are black... at least in all the pic's I've seen.

You're correct - OEM crank pulley is silver.
