DIY help for vinyl wrap?
Hey guys I am trying to do something a little different with my car. I want to apply some type of glossy black vinyl wrap material to the vrs lip and inside / bottom of the two front side air intakes on the bumper. The point is to have the front center air intake gap still red but the rest of the stuff around it including the VRS lip glossy black. I know I probably should do this by painting it but I want something that is more easily reversible in case I dont like it.
Can anybody give me any suggestions or pointers as to where I could get the material and ease of install? Do you think this is something I should be able to do myself?

Vinyl wrap the car yourself? I dont understand do you have any experience doing something like this? It doesnt sound like you do, I would never consider doing this myself.

Not the whole car, just the 6in or so on the inside rim of the front bumper.

I dont see why you cant do it yourself... Are you a diy guy? All i can say is it really depends on the material you get... Do not buy precut sheets they never fit properly and when cutting make sure your lines are straight and even because uneven lines will cause it to peel at high speeds...
Now for the most part you are supposed to use a soap and water formula so that it doesnt stick right away... Then you heat it with a blow dryer if you dont have a heat gun to shrink it and dry the liquid out so it sticks... Good luck

if you have any skill and the right tools for trimming the vinyl you should be fine, oh and some patients for WHEN you mess up.
this is all i could find in gloss black. Plenty of matte black everywhere. this should give you more than enough to work with as well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3M-Gl...item41567fd4dd Kris. |

Its worth a shot, I have played around with vinyl quite a bit and its very forgiving. If you dont like how something turns out peel it off and try again, its that simple.

As long as you use a good quality vinyl you will be fine. Most 3M vinyl is designed with air release channels which make installation much easier. I’ve ordered vinyl from http://downshiftgraphics.com quick shipping and awesome products.

A small area like that should be no biggie, but it will take time to get perfect. I remember seeing a video about a guy wrapping his hood somwhere. I'll see if I can find it again.
