Sorry for your loss. That sucks.

Btw... for all the others, I was told by someone who does coding very well... that one can "lock" the CAS on the car to just the two key fobs, that way IF someone tries to "clone a key" it will not work. I suspect this is what BMW is doing in their new SW update for the UK market.

Don't get a C63! I sold my 2012 coupe after 1900 miles. Rattling and creaking piece of shit. Traded it in on a new 550i M Sport. Couldn't be happier!

Well its good to know if you have a 335 with a JB4 it disables and takes over the obd port when in map so it hopefully will help avoid this also

I don't get it. If they 'cloned' your key, why are the hoodied thieves pushing it home? Why not drive it home? Was that to avoid making noise?

Also, why did they come back an hour later after the first break in?

Finally, Geraldo Riviera approves of this video.

That van that went by, I hope they're able to ID it and locate who that is. On the other hand, I'm really sorry about your loss. I'd be furious.

Seems like having a garage would help solve this problem...

That is what I was thinking. If the root cause of this is the blind spot in the alarm that allows someone to crack the window and jack in to the port, I would highly suggest in investing in one of these things if you are in the UK and haven't received the updated programming yet.

Alternatively, wire in a single pole, single throw switch to the power wire of the ODBII port. You only use that thing during diagnostics or if you have a p3 gauge. Wire in the switch and shut the power off making it impossible for them to just jack in while in the blind spot. Hell, wire up the switch to the other side of the cabin or right next to the motion sensor.

This is exactly what I was told when I bought my 2010 135i by my sales rep. He told me, if I remember correctly, that the two keys I received were the only two keys that would start the car. If I happened to lose both keys, they would have to replace the ECU (I assume) and would cost an arm and a leg.

Any truth to this? I bought my car new in January of 2010 from a BMW dealership.

PS: IMO, insurance companies should start suing BMW for reimbursement since there is a HUGE flaw in their system...

...and if an update is available that will cure this problem, then they shouldn't pay out a customer that hasn't taken the time to have their software updated...

This stolen 1M thread(back in July) makes for an interesting read!

And this is how key cloning is done. The thieves push the car down the road so the owner doesn't wake up and hear the car start up!

Noop! The way I understand it... all BMW's can "learn" up to TEN key fobs from the factory. IF you loose a key fob... your dealer just add's another new key fob into the car's "directory".

What I was told is that the dealer or a knowledgeable "car coder" can "lock" the DME to just the current two key fobs. Then IF someone tries to clone a new key fob into the car's DME the car will not except the new fob - and the car can not be stolen that way.

As far as I know... BMW's SW update "patch" is ONLY for UK cars. I hope they roll it out to every bmw market though.

waah? My 2012 sedan was creeking too. but not reason alone to trade. M3 was more than reason to trade! I waited 11 months and got my M3 after. . Sorry OP about your car. c63 is great but M3 is just better.
