M3 Test in Autobild

New Autobild issue in Germany features a test where the M3 is compared to S5.
In short the author did like the M3 very much, his verdict was:
"The S5 impresses, the M3 wows..."

The numbers:

0-100 km/h: 4.9s
0-200 km/h: 15.7s

100-0km/h: 33.4m - 34m

fuel consumption: 13.2 l/100km (=17.8 mpg (US) - 21.4 mpg (UK))
which equals a reach of 480km

Best regards, south

Well, whatever savings DFI/FSI in the S5 is responsible for are probably offset by the losses due to AWD. And, I belive the S5 is slightly heavier?

Thanks for posting the numbers.

South, any idea as to the price difference between the two cars? The S5 should hit the U.S. showrooms at about $60K fully loaded. Thanks

RS4 costs 60.252 € excl. VAT

No slalom numbers in this Autobild test. S5 did get 2 points less than M3 in comfort rating. That must be due to the EDC they highly recommend for that matter...

The comparison should have been between the 335 and the S5, not the M3 - even though the 335 is a 6 cylinder.

How did you find me here. I only now realized where I know you nickname from...

To be honest, the S5 won due to the lower costs compared to M3.
In total 472 points for the S5, 464 for the M3. Without costs the result is 355points for S5 and 367 for the M3.

Like the author said: The M3 wins, but only if it doesn't depend on a couple grands...

BUT: S5 won the test against the M3 "only" because of its lower costs in the cost branch and not because its the better car overall...the M3 is much much more sportscar than the S5...and the test(er)drive stated "if he had the chance to decide between the two he would to 100% go to his bank (or to his hereditary uncle) to get the M3 instead of the S5

Errr I think the M3 won. Even if its a matter of cost these 2 cars are in the same cost bracket. If you can afford the S5 you can afford the M3 so the M3 won.

Not completely on topic but: I wonder what mods exist for the 4.2L Audi V8? Can it be made to hit 400hp with bolt-ons?
