It counts as a moving violation in Massachusetts now, and will raise your insurance rates just as much as a speeding ticket.

Wow, that's ridiculous because it's not dangerous in any way. If they did that here, I'd have a tow hook mount on immediately.

My car is gray and inconspicuous. I wasn't speeding or anything. Yet I got a front plate ticket from some arrogant douchebag pig only 1 week after buying the car. And yes, I had already ordered the tow hook mount, and was just waiting for its delivery.

Correct. If you get it signed off, you don't have to go to court. Just send the $10 and the ticket and you're done.

private property parking lot at PF changs or on a public street? don't see how they have any jurisdiction in a private parking lot. they won't issue a ticket for a wreck in a private parking lot.

I went almost 2.5 years without getting pulled over in NY but then a local cop by my house pulled me over twice in three months for this. The first time he let me go, the second time he gave me a ticket. The ticket was $185! I put my plate on so this cop would leave me alone.

I think I'm going to opt for the $38 internet route. I don't want to drill any holes or pay $70-$90 for a decent tow hook mount.

10 years with my old blue WRX and silver Sti and never once a front ticket in San Diego, hope that continues with the m3.

Those two cars got wayyy more attention that the BMW does though, full catless exhaust and the rear wing will do that i guess..

knock. on. wood.

My father made it almost 5 years in his Corvette. That car even has the Corvette logo inserted into the spot in the front bumper, so law enforcement just might give you a bit more of a break.

I see a lot of cars with no front plate and even quite a few with very obvious tint on their front windows (occasionally even the windshield itself). I wonder how long the average person can go before being asked for a donation to the public charity?

I grew up in El Segundo and lived there a majority of my life. The cops there are ruthless with any violations, normally just to outsiders. In fact its the only place I ever get nervous about no front plates and front window tint. My truck and my M both have front tint and no front plates and in ES I roll down the windows and keep my plate within reach so I can throw it in my front window. Never heard of them ticketing while parked but in the business district I can see why they do it - lots of cars most of which are not ES residents. Cops don't normally mess with the residents, but they do with everyone else because they want to keep people out who don't belong there. If you research the towns history you'll understand why. Crazy stuff

Well, if I do I expect them to show up immediately and do their best to help me, as long as my taxes keep paying for their bloated salaries and benefits.
