I would love to buy a E91, but my wife thinks the wagon SCREAMS MOM!

So because the E90 is hers, she picks the 4 dr as a junior executive car.

The 3er GT looks like the perfect compromise.

Great Job! I hope the production car comes close to the render.

This is getting really irritating... so many to choose from... WAW "with the 3er we are translating style , elegance and purpose but also with serious driving dynamics" this is genuinely gay, I think this phrase -more or less- is being plastered on every new concept ... am very disappointed right now, all I can see is how much greed has got into BM... I don't want to see my country flooding with BMWs... so much for exclusivity. Scott I think BMW should cut the crap with these new concepts especially with the front wheel drive cars...

Sry if I offended anyone but that's my opinion.

It does look nice.

I could go for the 3 GT if it didn't come with a large weight penalty, the 5 GT is 600 lbs heavier than the 5 series sedan. I would still want the performance.

There is the occasional time when you need to get something big into your car.... I know being practical......

If they made an E91 M3 I'd already have it!
The render on the homepage looks cool.

BRING IT... I'd dare ya!

What the fuck Wagon?

Seriously... Does anyone else hate these Hatchbacks as much as I do? The only one I can somewhat stand is the 1-series Hatchback and even then I would rather get a GTI if I ever wanted a damn hatchback. Stick to what works, BMW. Dealerships are going to be overrun and not have many options for people to look at soon.

I've loved my BMW wagons and have pined for an M3 Touring.
I'm more than willing to see what an M3 GT might be like.

The big difference between the 5 series GT and a potential M3 GT is that the M3 will be billed as a performance car whereas the 5 series GT has not been marketed as such, at least in comparison to the regular 5 series. I think the M3 market segment would not necessarily be looking for greater practicality as evidenced by the disappointing E90 M3 sales. As a parent with 3 kids, I'd been waiting years for BMW to make another M3 sedan, but I would not buy a GT. I just don't think the logic follows from a sales standpoint that since the more "practical" version is not selling well now, then buyers would go for an even more "practical" version, crossover popularity or not. Plus, there will probably be a significant difference in performance compared to coupe version due to the extra weight and size. Maybe a GTis, but not a M3 GT.

I agree. As a current m3 e90 owner, I don't need more practicality in my next M. I want performance, weight reduction, sporty design, and 4 doors. I don't want the extra weight and possible fugly factor (especially if the 5GT is any design indication) for a M3 GT. I have kids but don't need an SUV size interior for them to ride in the back.

Please just build a damn M3 Gran Coupe and I promise, you will have much better sales than the outgoing m3 sedan or 3er GT.

OK? this is the most pointless post in this entire thread. As to the 5GT being a sucess , they most be on some good shit because it is the ugliest car they have ever built (current models) and I have only seen one here in Miami and NONE at any dealers.

I definitely agree. If it ends up looking about like the picture you posted, I think people will be very pleased with the 3 series GT over all. An M version will look even better.

But the 3er Coupe does look good with "two extra doors" just like the Gran Coupe 6er and is on the shelf for BMW's strategy for investigating the expansion of the Premium Entry segment?
So watch this space.
Sounds great. Would this Gran Coupe also share longer wheel base with the 3 GT?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, by the way. Your presence on this forum is extremely helpful and very much appreciated. Kudos to you.

3er GT is much lower and sleeker than the 5er GT.
The brief for the 3er follows the same as the 5er GT travelling in style but add the word (fast!) for the 3er.

Customers for the 3er GT are entirely different from the 5er GT, especially with the car being a 3er in which the customer expects the best Premium entry Sports sedan when they get behind the wheel of a 3er.

The front end is something similar to this except the GT bloodline allows the headlights to follow the form of the 5er GT and turn upwards at the corners. but the overall shape is more flatter and angular like the rendering.
The car has a high belt line which completely wraps around the car , like the second illustration this allows the roof to be lower and sleeker.

The 3er GT is coming due to the response of the 5er GT which has sold over 20,000 units since it's introduction late last year, highly significant for a low volume premium product. In the US. The 5er GT has already eclipsed over two-years Combined sales of the 5er Touring since it's North American introduction earlier this year.
if the 3gt looks anything like this, it will be my next car

If this M3 GT is built I do not see why BMW would not offer the 4dr M3. I would think the wheelbase would be the same, the power plant would be the same, front hood, front quarter panels, front doors, all the same. The rear doors and roof line would have to be adjusted but it would go toward BMW's Modular platform of building cars and maintaining efficiency in building those cars.

Nope. See SCOTT's comments.

Quote:

Maybe, but not necessarily.

BMW has never built an M3 touring either, for example, so the mere fact that a given M vehicle could exist and share most of its parts with similar existing vehicles is not a good indicator of whether such a vehicle will actually be offered. As SCOTT hints above, it is more about what makes the best business case. For example, there would likely be some sales canibalization between an M3 GT and M3 sedan, and perhaps it would be just enough to hurt overall profitability and ruin the business case.

Assuming you meant the car under the blue tarp, that "ugly ass thing" is actually an F10 M5 in Monte Carlo blue:

http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=445625

If you think that will be an ugly car, might I suggest having your eyes checked? Or, maybe just not pass judgement on the looks of a vehicle that is way off in the distance and is mostly obscured by a covering?

At any rate, the 3 series GT is probably barely out of the clay model stage at this point, never mind the M3 GT. There's little chance you'll see a real one sitting in a BMW test facility for quite some time.
