Thoughts on repair?

While picking up the car from the dealer I stupidly clipped a pole messing up my bumper. Haven't even been able to enjoy the car. Really sucks!

Anyway the car is at the body shop and they are telling me I need a new bumper (obviously) and fender since I broke the tabs on the fender. They are also saying they need to blend the paint. Total estimate about $2800. Does this sound about right? Any ideas how long this will take? I really can't imagine it taking very long but it's already been a week.

Appreciate any input.

$2800 sounds cheap for this damage, here in Belgium it would be at least x 2 !
BTW...feel sorry about your luck ....Damn !

I'm just estimating but:

$487 for replacement bumper(per ecstuning website)
$499 for fenders(quick ebay search but it's for both sides)
$500 to paint front bumper and another $300 to blend
$500 for labor(8 hours to remove and reinstall bumper and fenders)

So about $2300, and I'm over estimating some costs(based on my location) so your estimate of $2800 isn't TOO far off if you're in CA? It should take about 7-10 days depending on how busy the shop is. I'm not sure but can you order the oem parts via your dealer? I know I ordered oem exterior parts for my previous MINI and it came painted the right color. Might be cheaper overall to do it that way..

Yes, that's right and unfortuantely since the whole fender needs replacement then yes, blending the left front door is done for color match. Due to how the hood rolls over the fender then the hood may also be blended for matching purposes

Price seems reasonable.

You guys are awesome. Really appreciate it. Yeah it went from a really great day to crappy day really quick.

Going to have insurance cover it so I'm sticking with OEM bumper. I just want it fixed so I can start enjoying it. Been wanting an M3 for a long time and can't wait to drive it.

sounds about right, prices will fluctuate within a couple bucks. Suck they will have to blend that door.

Try and find a small shop, it's usually those that do the best work. I can promise you that. Look for some advice in the local section. Turn around time will be quicker, and they will be more attentive to detail. Good luck.

At least you got it (don't want to scratch my new car) over with!

But seriously, am sorry for the bad luck. Here's to hoping you have nothing but good M days from here on out...they are incredible cars and love to be driven hard!

Is your car jet black or jerez? If jet black I would not blend. Black is very easy to match if they are good and then you don't have to put non oem paint on a door that isn't damaged.

You can put any bumper on the car you want, insurance has no right to stipulate (at least in CA). You could take the money insurance is giving you and not even use it to repair the car if you wanted to (if the car is financed the bank will not be ok with this..).

As for how I clipped the pole, the dealer had the car under an awning. When backing the car out I cut the wheel too sharply. Hadn't slept the night before (at least that is my excuse).

Car is Jerez. I realize I could get whatever bumper I want to but for now sticking with OEM.

Spoke to body shop this morning. Should be done today. It's been really difficult leaving the car at the body shop. Never had a car that I worried about so much and didn't trust anyone with. Don't know if it is me or that's typical with an M, but it has definitely been difficult. May need professional help when this is over. :
