FINALLY....Something you Haven't Seen or Complained About

Go out to my car last night, open the trunk, put some clothes in the trunk. Trunk is fine. Head to my parents house. Running down the highway I hit 80-90mph a few times. Get home, go to take the clothes out, and look at what I find....nice huh? Dealer took it in today, and it should be done by Friday, UNDER WARRANTY. Since I won't be adding any aftermarket spoilers or BMW performance parts to the trunk, they won't be using the adhesive strip BMW uses but rather a more permanent glue that you would use with other body mods.....

Just when you think you have seen it all Figured you guys probably had not seen this one yet......Oh well, guess sh*t happens......

That does not look to me like the wind just blew the spoiler away as the adhesive is in chunks... it looks like somebody tried to steal your spoiler and did not have enough time to finish the job, so the sucker was loose.

Regardless, at least it will be covered by warranty.

I'm in break-in......so it was under 100mph, wish I was going fast enough to say this was expected

You go any faster and you'll find your back seat on the hwy!!
Maybe your car was trying to tell you "get me a performance spoiler"

completely agree. I just took mine off the other day to install the BMW performance spoiler and only the side I was going through with fish line looked like this. About halfway I just ripped the whole thing off and the adhesive sticks to the spoiler side and comes off cleanly off the trunk.

Either way I'm glad BMW is replacing it. Not sure I'd let them use betalink, i considered it, even bought a tube but it seemed too permanent. Maybe I'm just a commitment phobe.

Good call - I bet that's it. Lucky they didn't finish or it probably would have meant going through insurance of paying for it out of pocket.

e46e92, I would take a few moments and try and deduce where it might likely have happened. You could then be prepared to perhaps avoid that place in the future if possible.

I already have jumped into full paranoia about this, because I have been thinking about it a lot too......

There was already a whole list of places I won't go with the car, but after last night, the list is growing, and growing.....and growing.......and growing.

Cheers,

Like they need more help?

What annoys me, what really gets me, is what the hell is wrong with people if this is in fact a botched theft, leading to the wind taking it off?

No one knows, but either way, I'm upset to even think that a week year old car already fell victim to some ignorant bastard

Cheers,

FYI, Betalink can be "fishing line" sawed off, just like the tape.

Happened to me last winter, except I wasn't driving. I was trying to push the car out of some snow with a friend and accidently grabbed the spoiler....

I got the permenant glue for the repair and it's good as new now.

I would be leery of permanent epoxy on the lid. Besides, you could just go spoiler-less like I did. Looks clean IMO.

This is crazy! "Hopefully" it was stolen, otherwise it suggests that BMW's factory work has become more and more shoddy of late.

Yeah but how easily does it come off after it's sawed off?
