Is the RS6 that much quicker than the M5?

It's a question probably being debated over numerous forums, be it a BMW forum or an Audi one. I seriously always thought that sheer output numbers would always give victory to the RS6 but then many people say not to discount the increasing rev limit of the M5 and the fact that it's only driving two wheels and not four and it's got a manual 7sp gearbox and not a 6 sp automatic.

Well finally we have a video on Youtube of a RS6 accelerating from 0-290km/h to compare against an M5 (stock) doing the same thing though only to it's 270km/h limiter. Quite interesting to watch.

Start the M5 on 8 seconds of the video and the RS6 on 14 seconds. You will be surprised with the results.

I think the RS6 will be much faster, especially when you start to "procede" it.

Too bad we can't apply tuning to the situation. If that was the case, then we'd be allowed to modify the M5. If you're allowed to put as much money in the M5 as is the difference between the two then you could have a potential 800bhp G-Power M5. Hmm.

You are correct my friend, though the limiters are set at different speeds, the M5's was 270km/h while the RS6's limit was a much higher 290km/h. That means the RS6 continues to maintain the acceleration difference even above the 200km/h mark where many here felt the M5's higher revving engine and short gearing would prove decisive.

Plain and simple the RS6 is the quicker car, in acceleration, on the road and on the track.

I am dieing to see how one stands up against an M6.

Good point, I totally forgot about the huge price gap.

I can't say if Sport Auto have conducted a full test on the RS6 but on every other test carried out else where the RS6 has been much quicker round the respective tracks. Given that the ring is a power circuit the advantage should be in the RS6's corner, best wait and see.

yeah it looks and feels faster but not that much....

I think audi is faster from 200-300kmh...its got 73hp more....its heavier but still faster on the straight line...well its not the first time that some heavier car beats bmw in acceleration , mercedes does that all the time , S class is much quicker than 7....S 63 L or 65 L are faster than any other stock bmw , SL 65 is faster than all of them...that car is well over 2 tons and still can beat porsche and ferrari not to menchain silly M5 and even more silly RS6 or any other car for that matter , I just dont understand how they do it..? is it because of a bigger engine or much more torque than bmw or what?

just check this out its the old SL600...Im speechless

or S600

The real surprise is that the Alpine B5s isn't as quick yet it's got more torque and is only down 40hp, plus it's lighter and only drives the rear wheels.

It's whispered that the RS6 has more than the quoted 572hp and if this video and the times it has recorded against it's rivals is anything to go by then those whispers might indeed make out to be true.
