Seems familiar...

"WASHINGTON — BMW is recalling 2,500 2008 and 2009 M3s with the optional M DCT automated dual-clutch gearbox because the engine may stall at low speeds, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"The problem involves the double-clutch gearbox," NHTSA said in its recall summary. "In a situation of rapid vehicle deceleration, the transmission software may perform a multistage downshift. In that situation, at low vehicle speeds, it is possible for the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash."

That would be sad if the same problem is still happening on brand new 2011's

+1. My 11 m3 dct is on order and it would be a shame if there is a problem with dct and BMW is not forthcoming about it. Then again I believe it took a segment from Good Morning America and Nightline for BMW to announce a voluntary recall of some model year 2007-2010 BMWs with the HPFP's.

this is why less gadgets is always better and presents less problems.

To the OP, glad you are okay and keep us posted. Hopefully, BMW will take this seriously.

Well true a 6mt is better if your engine loses power, since you have the engine braking if you need it...

But I don't choose my transmission for when something bad happens. If I chose my car and options for when bad stuff happens, I'd be driving something huge, slow and simple, wearing bubble wrap...

This is an M3 we're talking about, 'soon after a fill up' covers pretty much all of its existence.

I just searched the NHTSA website. There isn't even an option for BMW at all in 2008, and no option for the M3 in 2009. What is the source of this information?

Love how people on message boards panic like every m3 is going to shut down and fly off of a cliff.

Hey guys, here is an update,

I picked up the M3 two days ago, I haven't touched it since then. I was trying to make a point to BMWNA that this car is dangerous, but they denied my buy back. I'm not done though, so I'll see how this will go. I have a feeling that this will end with this car in my possession but who knows. I think I can change the table.

Anyways, this care had a camshaft sensor issue and that was all. Little scary how a sensor can do that much damage on a car.

Thanks for all the support on this,

Kian

Ha ha. That's is so true. I kinda expect my local Chevron to start sending me birthday cards, considering how much business I've given them...

FFS if every car maker bought back every car that ever had a part failure there would be no cars left on the road...BMW are not going to buy back your car so man up, stop wining and get on with your life

if anything like this happens again in the next 18 months/18k miles, he has a good case

2 safety failures. I'd say an engine turning off one you counts

How many days was it in service for?

Old news. The software fix for that has long since been superseded by later software revisions.

2011 here with 20K miles on it no DCT issues what so ever (touch wood)!
One, two or few malfunctioning DCTs out of thousands doesn't constitute a "DCT flaw" cause that's like saying
All Italians are mafia
All Muslims are terrorists
All tires explode
All BMW drivers have no friends..oh wait, this one is true
