Tips for cleaning exhaust
I haven't really owned a car worth cleaning in a lot of detail till now
It's been too cold for me to clean my M3 myself yet but I have been taking it to touch-less laser washes a few times already. My question is I noticed the bottom of the tailpipes getting black sut on them, I looked closer and it's actually all along the inside of them too. So I'm wondering what I should use to clean that crap out of there, I don't want to scratch the chrome after all.

+1 on this. I also use it too, it works quite well.

Ok, but I'm assuming this is for polishing the exhaust AFTER I get all the crap off of it.
I'm asking, what do I use (like what kind of brush or cleaning) to getall the black crap off the exhaust in the first place

It does the cleaning/polishing. Just clean the car and dry the exhaust then work this around with the sponge and wipe off. Presto, shiny tips.

So where locally can I pick this stuff up or do I have to order it online?

Not sure who is in your area but you would need a specialty car detail shop. Easy enough to order online from any of the usual places - P21S has a list of online dealers on their site or go to one of the forum sponsors directly. Most carry P21S.

Use the green side of a scotch-brite pad with soapy water to get most of the carbon buildup and dirt off. Then use a metal polish to give the tips their shine back.

Have you tried using NeverDull? Thats what I use and gets the shine right back plus cleans the hell out of them as well.

all those products are great to use, but if you clean your car weekly, wash and dry the exhaust tips every time. and you will never even need to use those products! I never have!

Brillo is steel wool. I can see using that on the inside of the tips but definitely not on the chrome exteriors - IT WILL scratch. Personally I never clean the insides of the tips, just the outside and the rounded lip part near at the boundary between outside and inside. Any old metal cleaner like Brasso or Mothers which you can find anywhere will do a great job on the exterior of the tips.

Those tail pipes are like Jewelry on the back of the car. I use the same P21 chrome polish every time I wash the car and they look like the day I took the car home.
That is what I was told to use on my Harley chrome, and THOSE guys are fanatics! |

Whats the best way to remove the soot? I've kinda let mine go and now they're really bad and hard to clean.

Just had a thread on this over in the detailing forum. Not too hard to clean them up, easy with regular cleaning.
