OK I am going to the Santa Monica, CA store at 9 am on the 31st. Very curious what the line will be like. I'll try and post a pic. Going to put the deposit down since they are usually fully refundable. No harm keeping $1k parked for a little bit to see how good/bad the car turns out to be.

The M3 is not right for everyone.
1. Not 100% sure I will go through with this. Wife says if we buy Model 3, M3 is out. So M3 for sale as early as 2017 delivery of Tesla. I want to put deposit down to keep my options open in 2017. We may sell the X5, though it'll still be under warranty.

2. Yes

3. On my X5 yes, M3, haven't checkd, but doubt it.

4. Probably no, maybe to troll F80 owners once in a while. I'll still post of Xbimmers though. Thanks

What you should do is do a cat delete on the M3 or get a supercharger... that way you can tell your wife that it is illegal to sell the M3 due to not passing emissions.

Then get the Model 3 as a shared commuter car between you and your wife. That way you have the M3 and X5 for the weekends.

Remember... it is easier to ask for forgiveness instead of getting permission.

Also using the Model 3 as your commuter will save a significant amount in maintenance + gas in the M3; having the electric car qualifies you for lower electricity rates; and your total car insurance could be cheaper with the 3 cars than just the 2 because electric

Probably depends on your commute and what the commuter car is.

In my case I use a crappy Chevy Spark EV as my commuter car.

-The lease ended up being $70 a month after all the incentives with zero down. This was cheaper than the $215 a month I was paying for a commuter train pass and cheaper than the gas and toll road expenses (I'm guessing that ranged anywhere from $300 to $600 a month because the toll roads was actually a longer distance as well) I was paying to commute with the M3 + the added maintenance involved on the M3 (it's expensive to maintain the M3) + the depreciation as I piled miles on the car.
- Since I just top off charge at work during the day and I have a time of use electricity plan at night and have the Spark EV to charge after 10pm + I changed all my light bulbs in the house to LED... my electricity bill has stayed the same as it was pre Spark EV
- My insurance rate between 3 cars (FJ Cruiser, VW CC, M3) and 4 cars (FJ, CC, M3 Spark EV) dropped by $15 dollars total for the year
- in my case I'm actually saving a lot per month commuting with my crappy cheap Spark EV while saving my M3 for the weekends

I'm guessing the cheapest Model 3 will probably still be just under breaking even for me since the Model 3 is costs more than the Spark EV and I will probably plan to purchase it so I can just pile the miles on until the batteries and motor burns out.

If anything I might just get a higher spec'd or maybe the top model and sell off my wife's car. Then I'll probably have to get the height of my FJ Cruiser down a little so it continues to fit in my wife's work garage so she can use the FJ 2 to 3 times a week and I use the Model 3 2 to 3 times a week.

Anyhow... found these pictures that hint at the shape of the model 3... there is one with a tarp over it and another ceramic model sitting under the designer's arm

hmm looks like the math worked out for you. I'm thinking there's an outside chance we may get rid of the X5d for the Model 3. We really don't need 3 cars with only 1 garage space and street parking at a premium in my neighborhood.

I see my $1k deposit as keeping my options over for 2017. If something happens where I want to sell the M3 or the X5 and have an immediate car to use.

BTW... has anyone noticed on all the Tesla Forums... they refer to the Model 3 as the Tesla M3?

stop it, just stop it!

Given the pricing point of the car, I'm going to guess it'll be more of a entry-level compact sedan... So expect something like a Corolla or Civic interior quality but with a large infotainment screen and a Tesla nose.

Welp, it's already midnight Eastern March 31, and still no info.

In the meantime, here's a picture of a $37k Lexus Corolla hyrbid which is what the Model 3 will compete against

I already receive pretty nice head, and the SF air is plenty cold for my nose to intake. Thank you very much!

Damn all they talk about on the news radio on my way to work this AM is all the Tesla lines!!! As of 545am Pasadena had 75 people waiting already.

I plan to go during my lunch break... I am hoping by then there will be enough people ahead that once mine is made all the bugs are out but still soon enough to get my $7500 discount.

When I get to the mall... I don't know what line I should get in... Tesla for the smaller Tesla car? or Apple for the smaller iPhone?

People are already in line? Wow fanboi much? What if the unveil is a big flop and the car ends up looking like this?

What's the $7500 discount? The Fed tax rebate? This is the whole reason why I'm willing to swipe my credit card today. I want to keep my options open, and if I want delivery in 2017, it'll get me the rebate before it's phased out.

FYI, CA just passed a new law that phased out CA EV tax rebates for high income earners. Since you and your wife are ballers hauling in $500k AGI, you probably won't get this one.

Well the $1,000 is refundable anytime until you order and have a build date. So if it does look like that I will take my money back.

The $7500 is the fed tax rebate that is right off the up front cost of the car. That one is not income dependent. However the $2500 for California is income dependent which will be implemented at the end of the month I believe. I already got my $2500 by leasing a crappy Chevy Spark EV which the lease will end by the time the Model 3 comes out.

As far as looks... haven't you seen the conveniently leaked profile pictures and ceramic models yesterday? It does look like a smaller sportier looking Model S in profile anyhow.

I'm aware of $1k being fully refundable until time comes to allocating a build date. I'm just joking that fanbois are spending so much time without seeing or hearing actual details of the car.

IMO, I probably have the last priority anyways for the initial build. So I'm just going to deposit online at 8:30 PM today.
