From Dinan to Akra GT4

Just installed my GT4 system on the M today and wanted to share my thoughts. Coming from full Dinan set up, I must say the Akra with the carbon fiber tips, looks so amazing when standing from behind. The fitment and quality not to mention light weight is second to none. However! It doesn't sound as good as the Dinan does. Kind of disappointing but oh well. Don't get me wrong, the Akra sounds great too but IMO the Dinan set up gets first place. The GT4 system with no resonators is actually still quieter than the Dinan which has 4 resonators. Go figure.....

Are you switching back?

I have a GT4 on the Frozen Grey E92 M3 and I'm finding it to be a bit raspy and less refined than the Evo.. I prefer the evo on my E90 much more... Although.. the DCT downshifts are just insane with the GT4..

I was always a fan of the Dinan setup, very good stuff.

Don't you rev match down shifts with your 6spd? I do all the time and the sound not to mention involvement and satisfaction of nailing them spot on manually is fantastic. Not sure if you were talking about that since you mentioned DCT or downshifts in general with the GT4.

Couldn't agree more ... just love it. With the test pipes, MPE and BPM Stage II

The mufflers have a greater influence on the exhaust tone more than the x pipe.

I love the way Akra sounds and obviously the tips are awesome. But I agreee with you having a Dinan setup on my car right now. It sounds amazing. Better than Akra, no drone(not that Akra has any but almost every other system does), deep, and a little louder. But with that said if money were no object I would rock the Akra for those tips lol.

Well ppl here are being very sensitive these days.
Drone is subjective, I chose to go with the Akra not only because it doesn't drone but it saves weight, looks good too and all 4 tips work. I was considering dinan also as a replacement for the loud AA I had on but it doesn't even come close to the quality and sound the Akra has. Yes it is more expensive but a used one can be had for a decent price these days.

I'm being sensitive because I asked why the tips matter? News to me.

Dinan sounds better than Akra IMO. But that's subjective. Akra wins on looks and tips(not the functionality of them) hands down.

I just swapped the Dinan x-pipe for the Akra GT4 and both sound great. I think the Dinan was more refined than the GT4, but I don't regret making the swap.

Yes of course I rev match with my 6 speed! Couldn't agree with you more about the satisfaction you get when you nail it! One of the many reason why I love driving a manual.
