2161 Mile M3 Euro Delivery Trip!!

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
First off I am going to say, I have read so many other threads like this, and mine will pale in comparison. I am not a huge fan of doing huge write-ups and explaining every step, but I will do my best. This will be a few posts to add all the pics so be patient.

The journey started years ago, I had been planning on doing this for a while but the timing never seemed right, I was either purchasing houses, moving, changing positions at work or just life got in the way. Finally I decided I needed to do this trip before the S65 was gone, so back in February I contacted David Aviles of Northwest BMW (well at the time Northwest now Steve Thomas). He came highly recommended by this board and others, and I will concur, he was nothing short of awesome. After my call in Feb, he was able to able to secure me a production number for my brand new E93 M3! So that was the easy part, now on to planning the trip.

When I was a kid my family did a Griswold Family vacation, we drove all the way from NJ to Cali and back on a big loop around the country. I was almost a teen at the time and that was an amazing trip (we even had a woodgrain sided wagon and the dog lol), I remember my dad making the spreadsheets and figuring out the mileage while using camping books to figure out where we would stay. I decided to create something like it (with less miles) going through Europe, the first two pics are the original wagon from back in the day and then a map of the Euro Delivery trip.

I will say going through this process, I would ABSOLUTELY do this again, and I would go through David again as well. In fact when the lease on the ATS that we have is up I want her to do Euro Delivery on a new 3 series (and after going through this she would do it in a second, she now has an IMFAN shirt as well as a ton of other BMW items).

As for my choice of the E93 over the E92. I have owned a lot of BMW's and I have been dying for a convertible for a long time. Did I feel the extra weight around the Ring, sure, but after driving this car (especially with the top down through the mountains, 360 degree views hearing the S65 sing I would not change my choice one bit. The E93 gave me a smile even when I was going 30 miles an hour its just feels amazing. Oh and I passed a cars on the ring which was driver related only but still the E93 has more then enough to have fun for me.

On to the trip! I will try to keep this in order lets see how it goes.

August 14th 2013: The day I had been waiting for!! We got to the Welt really early, my appointment was at 10:00 I think we got there a little after 8 lol! I must say the private owners lounge was pretty amazing. Food was good, the service was even better, the staff was so friendly and super attentive. Its pretty quiet that early in the morning, we ended up staying basically the whole day, did the museum and the factory tour (no pics allowed there but that was really cool) and its all included in the delivery as well as a free nice keychain and $10 more Euros to spend in the gift shop.

Ok so now I will try to go in order the best I can, here are a few more pics in Munich before we left for Switzerland, all in all we took I think like 2000 pics and some video, but I am only going to post some because I am sure most of you want to see car pics more then anything, and also I dont have the patiences to post that many pics!

Oh and our first of many gas stops along the way. We used almost 124 gallons of gas which was around 864 Euros or $1140 worth of fuel on this trip

Now onto Switzerland!! First stop was Zurich, we drove along the lake for a while, I liked Switzerland, very nice clean, but it was pretty expensive, they are still on the Swiss Franc, but their taxes are very high so a hot dog is like almost $20 US. We stayed at this cool hotel called the 25 Hours, you can actually reserve a Mini for the day for free!!

Now onto Interlaken, if you visit one place in Switzerland with Euro Delivery, DO THIS! As you drive through you go through absolutely amazing twisting roads, I could see this road being on one of Top Gears most amazing driving roads (as long as it was closed course). The hairpins and the views are tremendous. And the sound of the S65 bouncing off the mountain passes was just intoxicating

We hit 8000 feet and the temp dropped from the upper 80s when we started up to 53 degrees (seat heaters with the top down did wonders)

So leaving Switerland now on the way to Milan. I liked Milan, but like most of the places in Italy they were nice in some areas but kind of shady and dirty when you were not in the main areas. Not horrible but I didnt expect it, especially after Germany and Switzerland which were amazingly clean.

I know I blew through those last few cities pretty fast, but then we arrived in Monaco and OMG this place is amazing. The views, the cars, the buildings, the people, the food, everything is top notch, I would retire there if I was a billionaire. I probably spent more money here then anywhere on the trip but I do not regret it at all.

The picture of the girls from far away were escorts. There were tons of them in Monaco, guess they follow the money lol.

I also hit close to the 1200 mile mark while in Monaco, so what else to do but get the 1200 mile service there Finalllyyyyyy get to hear the 8000 RPM wail!!

So after Monaco we headed to Marseille, on the way we decided to stop off in Nice and in Cannes. Nice was really interesting, because it reminded me of Fort Lauderdale a lot. I would like to check it out the next time we are back for a longer time period.

As you can see the only way we could drive with the top down was to have the luggage in the back seat. When I got to the ring I left the luggage home

From Marseille we headed to Lyon. We hit a huge rain storm on the way and it was really just a stop off point before we went to Paris, so I really dont have many pictures from there (plus its just a regular city, I am sure its nice but we barely spent any time there). I will say the hotel was one of the nicest that we stayed in.

Now onto Paris! I have been there before, and for some reason this time the people seemed nicer, maybe my French is getting better lol. Lunch at the Cafe facing the Louvre was fantastic, the service was quite good and the view wasn't bad either.

You could probably tell the cities I was taking the pics, there were more of my car and others, if you need more scenery pics I will try to find them

She will probably kill me for skipping through half this trip, but our next stop I couldnt wait to post about, THE RING!! We went 4 hours out of our way to Amsterdam so I could drive on it, it POURED on the way there and I was scared we would drive all that way and the track would be closed. We got there and it was dry as a bone. I was able to get 4 laps (almost 50 miles of racing) in before we decided to stop for lunch (she also said one more lap and she was going to be sick lol.

I was very timid on the first and second lap, part of it was getting used to the car, part was not really knowing the track at all, by the 3rd and 4th lap I really picked it up and started passing some people. I still held back some but I had an awesome time and it was so worth the drive. Afterwards we stopped off had a bit to eat at the track and headed to Amsterdam, literally as we drove away from the track it started to downpour. We could not have had better timing.

I am so glad I waited till the 1200 mile service before I went there, It would have killed me to stay below 5500 rpm.

And now onto the final leg of the trip, we head over to Amsterdam, a place I havent been to since college. It was still amazing and its another place I could live. Hmmmm maybe I can get an expat thing going there. The only thing that sucks is dont bother owning a car in that city. Bicycles rule everything and I mean everything, there are 1.8million bikes in the city, which is more then the amount of people, and they have the right of way everywhere.
