Question Exactly why is it I cannot play music via Bluetooth ?

Greetings,

I have read some of the stickies about the BMW audio system and Bluetooth, etc. - but exactly why is it I cannot use the Bluetooth to play music ? The Bluetooth works fine for the phone, and I use the USB cable connected to the USB port in the center armrest - then select External devices from the iDrive menu options.

But - I am just curious why I cannot use the BT for both audio and telephone. Also is there anything better about using the Apple phone adapter from BMW ? I would need to use a 30 pin connector to Lighting adapter for this to work with my iPhone 5S. Would I have full access to the menu of the iPhone or just be the same as when using external connected devices ?

Thank You,
Merlin

Bluetooth audio

Try this. It mimics the functionality of having it plugged into the USB, but it streams through your phone. Best thing for getting Bluetooth audio with all title info. displayed on your screen. Hands down .

I can vouch for this recommendation. If you have a pre-2011.75 E9x, this is the best option, if all you want is BT music.

Something to check is if bluetooth audio is enabled. When you connect your phone via the USB under the armrest, it turns off bluetooth audio. (Trying to remember what buttons to press) Go in to External devices, then go to your connected phone. Then, click right on the iDrive wheel, and go to configure device and make sure bluetooth audio is checked. I have split screen enabled, so when I do this, I have to click right on the iDrive wheel, then into "Split screen content" and that is where I see the option to configure device.

You will need this to make BT audio work on Pre 2011 cars. Phones will pair just fine. There is no option for BT audio streaming until 2011.
I have a 2009 and have this device, and it works perfectly. No art, but I can see song info from Pandora, iPhone music, Rhapsody, etc...

OP, your about section says you drive a 2012?
Any BMW with combox (2011.5 & up for M3's) should have the ability to stream audio via bluetooth.
Are you configuring it correctly? Its not a flawless system; mine glitches here and there & i usually just unpair and re-pair the phone combined with a reset of my iphone.
Works fine afterwards.

Do steering wheel functions and everything work the same as if you were using the USB connection?

Can anybody tell me which build date is 2011.5? Is it really anything after June 2011? Looking at options for M3s and want to make sure it has bluetooth streaming music.

I have been trying to find a solution to use blue tooth to stream music. I just bought my e92 and it does not have the USB factory option but I have I Drive and blue tooth phone capability. Will the air play work and display songs from my iphone/ipod if I only have the AUX connection in the armrest?
