09E90M3(Megan)'s FIRST Baseline dyno at Gintani Motorsports

Hey guys,

I went to see Alex at Gintani last week before the new years to get a baseline dyno. I totally forgot i had the Macht Schnell Filter until i was driving home. So the car is NOT stock. It has the M&S filter.

Results: 310wHP and 225wTQ. Average i guess. or semi low. oh wellz.

Ran a total of 5 runs. The fifth run, it was losing power. Whatcha guys think? Low? Avg? High?(doubtful)

Gonna do a dyno after i get all the ENVY pieces from Tecnocraft. See if it makes HP!!!!

Can't seem to stop starring at those LM-Rs. What are the specs of them? If you had a different exhaustsystem setup im sure you'd get more whp and more wtq.

Are the wheels 19's or 20s? Did that make a difference maybe in power?

That is exactly what I was going to post. They look like 20s, which is A LOT of wheel to have to spin.

im pretty sure the added weight of your rims and tires contributes to loss of hp at the wheels....

but i also have heard dyno dynamics does read a bit lower...

throw on your stock wheels the next time your on the rollers!

Should be around 345 - 360 wheel HP bone stock with the 6 speed manual (even on an 18% drivetrain loss).

Two plausible explanations:

- Your wheels are too heavy and too big to spin on the roller dyno.

- According to what resident expert PencilGeek had mentioned before, the S65 engine needs A LOT of air especially at high rpms. If it does not get the required air being crammed into the intakes, the ECU cuts back on the power. If you had fans at the front of the car, it is very likely you would have dyno'ed heigher.

#2 reason would have affected other cars on the same dyno unless they were tested under different conditions.

What are some of the results of other stock cars on that same dyno?

Some cars need more air than others. Particularly, high revving engines with very high compressions.

That is why this affect will not show consistently across different cars on the same dyno since most cars do not rev over 6500 rpm.

S65 needs more air than most engines (hence the 3 intakes rather than 1).

thats already been done before. I may do it. Its a bit of a hassel tho. I was just thinking about bolting on ALL the envy setup. We'll see. hopefully i wont get too lazy.

Those are the "amuse" setup. Specs in my sig: 20X9 +8 and 20X10 +18. Yea, im thinking of getting the gintani sport exhaust. Or maybe Arquay, Dixie, or Amuse and shorten the tips or Kressig.

Yea 20s do hinder performance. Well, with the step lip, the face is only a 19" face so if i did 19" then the face would be 18". It would look too small IMO.

well, i wanted to know how much power i was putting down on the 20s since i am gonna daily on them!

Hrm, there was a fan in the front of the car. Multiple fans actually. guess it just needed MORE MORE MORE air!!!!

Yea Ed, you are definitely down on power for some reason.

298rwhp? That's equivalent to 28% drivetrain loss...

That's low even for a Dyno Dynamics. (which does read conservative)

Given the 69 degree air temps during these runs, those numbers should be higher.

With a Macht Schnell free-flowing aftermarket air filter (in place of the restrictive stock charcoal-impregnated paper filter) your car should have made some consistent runs in the 315-325 rwhp range on 91 octane fuel.

Again, we aren't talking about 95+ degree temps in the middle of July here.

Yes, I do agree that your 20" wheels did drive your number down a little bit, but a sub 300rwhp number is very low for the E92 M. (in cool weather conditions)

Three of your five dyno pulls were 306 rwhp or less.

Four of your five dyno pulls were 307 rwhp or less. (that eliminates the chances of some random anomaly)

And the worst two pulls average out to ~ 300rwhp. (298 & 301)

That's low dude...

It indicates a pattern.

I suggest that you check your ECU's OBD-II port for any stored engine codes. (and post the results here)

Also make a return trip to the dyno (with your stock wheels installed) to remove the LM-R's from the equation.

I don't believe your 20" wheels are the source of the problem, since they are only 25.3 & 25.5 lbs each. (front and rear)
