It is NEVER too hot to put the top down! This is not open for discussion!

driving with the top down is the ultimate stress reliever, it can make any bad day a happy day
it's up during business, but down at all other times when the weather is 50+.

Yeah, agreed: no wind deflectors, no windows, and only occasionally radio.

Only way to do top-down is au naturel.

Unless you get a phone call.

Absolutely! I've had some truly horrible days that were gone in 30 seconds. There just isn't a bad work day that top-down WOT can't fix.

Especially when you're never more than 30 minutes from the ocean

I'm actually contemplating the same thing right now as I plan to buy a M3 in a few months. The coupe looks better with the top up and the chrome trim on the vert really bugs me. The performance difference also really bugs me. Are you buying new or used? I'm only really considering the vert because I plan to buy used and there are SO many used for sale. You double your options

I had an E36 M3 Convertible.. it was a bit like a trampoline.. at first I'd jump on it every chance I had.. then eventually as years passed the only time I'd jump on it is when a friend was over and wanted to..

I just didn't like the added attention.. felt like people were always looking at me or looking in my car.. or thinking 'look at this douche, thinking he's all cool with a convertible bmw..' ... I know ironic that I'd hate the attention when i drive a 1000hp M3 now days.. but it did get old for me. Maybe one day I'll get one again but when i did have the convertible the best time to put the top down was on a hot summer day after sunset.. I do miss that.

You can get the trim vinyled for a few hundred bucks or less ... anyone who'd black-out the chrome probably also isn't worried about people starting at them or their car. Personally I don't care ... maybe a little ... but I bought the car for me to enjoy and it's pretty easy to stay self-centered in a 'vert M3

As to the performance depends on what you're buying the car for. If you think 5/10ths of a second to 60mph is going to drag you down and you value that over wind in the hair, smell the tires, loud ... with the option of quiet daily driver (buy why?) then the 'vert isn't for you.

I've got my chrome trim vinyl-wrapped to matte black...you are right, I don't like the chrome trim...

Seriously

I was considering a M6 until I found out it's a soft top... wtf.

Same here.

I prefer the look, the temperature insulation, the sound insulation, and the cannot-cut-into-my-car-with-a-pocketknife security of a hard-top.

e93 vert in Atlanta.. top down whenever I can and its not 100+ degrees in bumper to bumper traffic.

Love the ability to drop the top, but my car is slow. Maybe an S/C will help out.

I wouldn't choose an e93 over an e92. I bought mine used and like someone already said you have a lot more options.

Plus... MOST of the '08-'10 cars that were coupes were beaten to shit. People who buy e92's are more likely to drive their cars hard and hit shit. A lot of them had horribly worn seats, shifters, steering wheels, painted bumpers, curbed wheels.. the cars were just tired.

Without the wind deflector, I don't like driving it top down on the freeway. This is the same with my Z4, but it's not as good as the M3. Lots of wind still gets in compared to the M3.

Without the wind deflector... then yes the hair will get messed up pretty badly.
I have the wind deflector (based on your recommendation) It does make a huge difference and I highly recommend it to anyone. But the hair still flies around enough to get the girls to complain. I guess I need to start dating girls with shorter hair??

I actually find myself driving with the top up and all windows down a majority of the time. Love that pillarless look.

I really do need to drop the top more often though.

Lol maybe!

Most of the women who ride in my car have their hair length just a tad or so under their shoulders.

A couple have them higher but with bangs. So maybe that's why it doesn't blow around too much lol

Z4 does mess up their hairs though, so no top town Z4 if we're going on a date.
Going to Malibu while on PCH is a different story though! :P. or when gazing up at the stares.

Ahh I'm going to miss my m3 when it's gone

I live on LA. There are weeks where I don't even put the top up. I even park it at the office (secured lot) top down.

Here in Houston, weather is getting perfect for top down!!! I have great morning commute time on HWY 59 from Heights to Sugar Land(against horrible Houston traffic) with top down.

I had rag top Z4 M roadster with wind deflector, hard top M3 is much better in noise level and chassis stiffness.
With DCT & wind deflector, my wife enjoys M3 for weekend shopping!!!!

This is funny because almost every time I see the e93 the top is up. Looks like a different car when its down lol

personally I like the line more on the E93. driving with the top down mod exhaust= beautiful sound.

Does anyone know the "magic seat position" where the girls hair flies straight back and they actually enjoy it? lol that would be awesome. I was driving with a girl wearing a skirt, kept flying up, hair all over the place ha. she wasn't to happy.

Sounds like you already found the magic seat position if her skirt was flying up?
