I can see where you are coming from. Most Ferrari owners are biased towards their cars. But i'm not one of those Ferrari loyalist. This is actually my first Ferrari and i bought it for what it is, not for where it's built. To me and with my expectations, this car suits me the best. But that doesn't mean other cars such as LFA aren't great.

911 and 918 are completely different cars.
The 911 sells from $90k-$200k, while the 918 will cost over $1 million. The 918 spyder isn't even out yet.
918 Spyder.

7:32.92 Ferrari 458 Italia by Sascha Bert
7:38.85 Lexus LFA by Sascha Bert

I don’t really trust those manufacture conducted tests since they probably tweak the car to claim something like 5:54 Nurburgring time for better sales...

All that means is that Sascha Bert doesn't know how to drive (or didn't care to drive) the LFA to its fullest. He wasn't even in the ballpark of the LFA's official time (7:14).

And by the way, what you described isn't even a "same driver same conditions" scenario. Sascha Bert had run multiple attempts to get his 458 Italia time optimized, while he only drove the LFA one time. He did not drive them on the same day, either. That's about as far from "same conditions" as one can get.

Edit: Of course, "impressive" is in the eye of the beholder. Maybe you find slower nurburgring times (at half the cost) to be "impressive," in which case you'd be more impressed with the vastly slower 458 Italia.

And one more thing, the LFA's 7:14 was done on bone stock street tires (Bridgestone Potenza RE070).

The Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR's 7:12 was done on street-illegal drag radials.

The Porsche 918's 7:14 was done on "production intent" Michelin street tires.

I'm not sure about the 458 Italia time. Anyone know? Street legal tires or not?

Supercars aren't always the best performing cars at any given time, but they are the epitome of status and technology, and this car does just that. It's also priced so far out of most anyone's reach that people can only dream of being able to even sit in one someday.

Fact of the matter is you can get better performance out of a Corvette ZR1, but the ZR1 is no LFA
+1
Couldn't agree more. Many feel price alone the LFA should be out performing all cars that are less than it in cost. Not the case, although performance and numbers are measure for a supercar its not the only factor to be measured. If i'm not mistaken they lose money for every one sold.

If we're going by stock track performance/price ratio, the GTR is far and away the most impressive car of them all.

That or a Z06. It will be interesting to see what the C7 Z06 is like. With initial GTR pricing, it was a bargain, now that they're creeping towards ZR1 pricing, it's not quite the bargain it initially was.

Impressive performance numbers but that's really about it. It's a boring robot car too look at, listen to, and drive unless you really dump money into it.

Yea those numbers are great for comparison purposes and all, but Clarkson wasn't saying the LFA is the fastest production car around a track (although pretty darn close). Clarkson is merely saying the LFA is best car he has ever driven.

You can say it's boring to look at or listen to, but boring to drive unless you dump money into it? What the hell are you smoking?

The 2013 bone stock GTR comes with a sub 7:25 Nurburgring track time, 0-60 = 2.7 seconds, and a 10 second quarter mile. Bone. Stock.

Fast lap times =/= FUN

The 2012 GTR I've logged at least 100 miles into wasn't very "fun" at all. The only way I can see it being fun is giving it tons more power so you're spinning tires and breaking traction through gear after gear.

Thanks, so still looks like Italia is faster:

Lightning Lap 2013:
Ferrari 458 Italia 2:49.9/86.9 MPH
Lexus LFA 2:55.1/84.3 MPH

bravo! spread the news on other forums too as Lexus has arrived! You see Lexus built this super car to prop up its image in the performance department. BMW has nothing to prove or showcase. the history/pedigree speaks for itself.

Is Virginia International Raceway more official than Nurburgring?

News to me...

Why are you giving preference to VIR times over Nurburgring times?

I've only driven a bone stock LFA in GT5 and it's one of my favourite stock cars since then, but so is the stock 458 and SLS AMG.

If I'd win the lottery, it would be a 458(or even a F12), sorry.

Cheers

Ok, what I'm trying to say is that under similar test conditions Italia is as fast or faster than LFA, both great machines but Italia seems to be a better choose (brand/price/availability/track times):

Lightning Lap 2013:
Ferrari 458 Italia - 2:49.9
Lexus LFA - 2:55.1

Nurburgring by Auto Bild magazine:
Ferrari 458 Italia -7:32.92 by Sascha Bert
Lexus LFA - 7:38.85 by Sascha Bert

Laguna Lap 2012:
Ferrari 458 Italia - 1:36.22 by Randy Pobst
Lexus LFA - 1:36.39 by Randy Pobst

Well there you have it.

Solid proof that Lexus > BMW. BMW should just quit making cars and concentrate on bikes.

Oh boy, I'm about 12 months away from pulling the trigger on a 458 but this episode 2 weekends ago, really makes me want an LFA!

Everyone can argue a variety of different points on why the LFA sucks and why the LFA is great but to me, it isn't about the no cup holders, the funky navigation or even the fact it costs well over $400,000, it's about the carbon fibre body, the looks that are well beyond its time and the exhaust note, man oh man, I must say the exhaust note challenges that of a 458.

Then again, Lexus isn't really a boy hood dream for anyone, but Ferrari is, and making those dreams come true is what I find it is really all about.

Don't get me wrong though, BMW for life. WOOP WOOP! (sarcasm for those of you that don't know it.)
