I'm having a knocking noise when at idle, but it goes away once the clutch is depressed. Any ideas what this might be ? Also my idle sits at around 500-600 is this normal ? Car has 60k miles, noticed the noise after I bought it.
Thanks. Video added

Sounds like the throw out bearing. They're very noisy in this car. Almost a helicopter type noise?
And 500-600 sounds right for the idle. |

It's inside the transmission so it would require pulling the transmission. If you are doing a new clutch it's recommended. So basically the noise is normal in some sense.

Yeah its the throw out bearing.
BTW, replacing it wont help. I had my clutch changed about 20k km ago... Did it right from the moment I drove out of the shop. |

Some NHV is normal, as our cars are high revers hence heat and metal stretching had been on developement already considered, so we have to have play in it and yes that's the reason we have that noise. As I said, it'll alway's be present in one way or another! When it get's to loud, just get it replaced...of course you can do a new clutch, when you're anyway at. |

It's NOT the throw out bearing.
To test that, the noise would appear when the clutch is out (pedal down). What you're (used correctly) hearing is normal.

Hmm ill try to make a video so you can hear the noise. It's like a slight knocking almost. Not the normal chatter the flywheel makes and such.

That would be a good idea. The throw out bearing isn't even activated when the clutch is in so it has to be something else.

That sound is completely normal, every MT owner has it, whether they are careful enough to listen for it, it's there.
