Electric exhaust cutouts

I am curious about the placement of the dumps. Ive always noticed that people put the dumps towards the rear of the exhaust. Why don't people people put the dumps right behind the headers? Wouldn't that produce a much louder note and be more free flowing without passing through the cats? Exhaust noob here so sorry if it is a dumb question. The only thing I could think that would prevent this is some sort of issue with back pressure or letting too much exhaust out too quickly if that is even an issue. Thanks for the info!!

There's a several reasons. First, backpressure like you mentioned, but then there's also issues of having that much heat that close to the transmission and the electronics like the O2 sensors. You would also lose power placing them directly after the primary cats because you don't get the benefits of exhaust scavenging that takes place in the X pipe. There also really isn't anywhere to fit them in that section under the car and if you've ever heard an S65 with open headers, you'd know it's so loud it's borderline unpleasant. Ask me how I know...

Brettforde92, Thanks for the info! I had just seen so many people with the cutouts at the back it got me thinking. But maybe I should stop doing that so often
