BMW ///M Power Tour 2010
Just got my invite for the M power tour. Seems to be the same that was offered last year. DC area one will be at the Meadowlark Botanical Gardens on the 30th and 31st of October. Same cars will be available: M3 DCT, X5 M, and X6 M. So people who are interested but didn't get a chance to participate last year try contacting your dealership or call 866-227-4269. The tour is probably coming somewhere near you soon.

Thanks for the heads up! Ultimate driving event was tame. This should be fun, but looks like no autocross though.

I went last year and it was a blast! They basically give you an e92 m3 to drive on the streets for 30 mins. I had my gf with me at the time and we switched back and forth. The pre-defined route they gave us was pretty secluded and really gave us a chance to open the car up to see how it performs. All in all it was a great experience and I'd love to do it again!

I went last year. They had E90s, E92s & E93s with DCT. They basically hand you the keys to the car you choose to drive and tell you to come back in 30 minutes. They have a predetermined course, but we got a chance to find a secluded backroad and try LC. My friend and I had a blast! This event definitely sold me on the car, I would have drove to the dealer and bought one that day if they were still open.

I went to the event today and it was amazing. Ive done a few similar events like this for benz and audi in the past, but this was the best. Benz and audi never had amg or s models to drive. The event was hosted at autobahn country club in joliet. They gave us about 30 minutes of supervised track time in a 2010 m3 followed by a ride along with one of the driving school instructors if you wanted. The BMW staff and instructors were amazing everyone had a great time. There was no street driving at all, everything was done on the track.

I really dont know how I got invited. When I asked some of the staff they staff how I could get some of my friends on the list they didnt know. They only had 9 cars to drive and I think 2 sessions an hour, so they cant have an onslaught of people. They probably had somewhere between 16 and 20 sessions in the day so that pretty much limits them to between 154 and 180 drivers a day. Its not really a lot of people.
I dont know if other towns are having the same track type event, but if they are I highly recommend it. If you are a person who tracks their m3 all the time then its not a big deal, it will probably be pretty tame for you. But I dont have that opportunity, so this was great. The staff had seperated the drivers in to 3 groups; beginner, intermediate and expert. I volunteered myself into intermediate, but got bumped into expert. Im not close to a race car driver, nor will i pretend to be, but i am a fast learner. And by my third lap of the circuit i was getting frustrated at the driver in front of me who should have been put into the beginner group. The staff had marked out a good racing line with cones, orange for entry, green for apex and another orange for exit. The driver in front of me couldnt follow a line if it was video game style augmented reality. he kept braking well into a corner, sometimes past the apex and would not power it until he was well into the straights. Even with that, I had a great time. Everyone in my session was an amateur, as I am, and they all had a good time. |

Man, I was invited but wasn't able to go today...but no stranger to ACC
Maybe would've been fun to set a time in one of the trucks at my home track I really didn't think they would let us on track. Autobahn is usually strict on rules |
