How are they "ridiculously" overpriced again? Have you owned or even driven one? It is sublime in everything it does. Best value? Not if you're in corvette/m3 range. Ferrari/lambo/Aston range then yes absolutely. Corvettes are probably best value for performance. But unless you've owned a Porsche it will never make sense. I sure as hell didnt until I bought one. Ahhh, I see the light!

I am very interested to see in person. I like many parts of the design, but suspect I will not find the overall package cohesive. That said, I took another look at the options (different thread) and wow, just wow. They really let the corvette team do their own thing when it come to dreaming up this next edition. They should just hire the right Italian design team and they would be golden. Not that they have any trouble selling these as is.

Nice for you but I seriously don't see how it's worth THAT much more compared to the Corvette. Porsches are great cars but their latest-generation prices are out of this world. A 911 is FAR from being comparable to an exotic like a Ferrari/Lambo.

I agree with digi. The 911 is something special, especially if you have a GTx car. Even though prices are high on the 991, it has quality you wont find in many cars and performance is still supercar territory or better for even the 911 S. 130K for a 911S is still far from being close to 458 pricing (~300K).

They may not have the same attention getting power as a Ferrari/Lambo but they are better drivers cars and are just as if not more overengineered.

So my question would be what is a Corvette cross shopped against?

Personally, I don't see the corvette being in the same group of cars as a M3/C63/RS5 etc. Those are "luxury" sports cars while the corvette is not.

I know some people may say a sports car is a sports car and not differentiate but....

i would say those others arent sports cars and your right most dont cross shop those two segments. corvette is kind of on its own.

None of these are sports car. They are GT cars. The corvette would naturally compete against sports cars like the viper, gt-r, mustang boos 302 and gt500, porsche 911, and used ferraris like a 360 or 430.

Probably right. I would never pay new price for an m3. For that money I would go find used gt3 or z06 most likely.

M3 is a great all around car and if I could only have one I would probably pick the m3. I haven't had only one car since shortly after high school though. Did have 6 not that long ago but got married and had to trim it back.

A loaded Stingray will run me about $15,000 less than my loaded M3 did. It really is a performance bargain if you don't need back seats. GM is saying they were lapping VIR in 2:51 which is 4 to 5 seconds faster than the current Grand Sport and squarely in the realm of Z06 performance... for $65,000 US loaded up All reports say that handling on the car has been improved dramatically.

You are right, in the purest sense those cars aren't sports cars. But as far as I can tell there is no standard definition of a GT, Sports car, Roadster etc that is accepted by everyone.... at least none that I could find.

I'd argue that the GT500 is definitely not a "sports car" and the 302 is kind of iffy

So no one would want to, you know, like actually *drive* one before *knowing* they'd be all up in it? Good for Chevy I guess!

For me at this level these cars are far more about the intangibles of driving feel. That's why my C5 (which I bought new waaaaay back when it was the big thing) is long gone, why I avoided the Viper entirely, and why I unloaded my GTR.

It isn't always about #s. although I suppose for some (many?) it really truly is. I'd argue though that for these folks the M3 was *never* the car for them and wonder why they ever owned it. It is never the "bang for the buck" sledgehammer. The C5 Z06 decimated the E46 M3 in this regard and the C6 Z06 decimates the E92. Of course the C7 will continue that. And people will continue to claim conspiracy when the pro reviewers keep giving the nod to /// or 911 in subjective testing.

I'll def do a drive of both the C7 and upcoming Stang to see for myself though.

There are some very in depth videos on the C7 by the Corvette team if you're into the nerdy stuff. I think its going to impress a lot of people. The lap of VIR is in there too.
