if you're lucky enough to have a wife who says "no problem darlin', go ahead and blow $ 60 K on a car" then you have no excuse not to get one !!!
mine is more like "WTF, you wanna spend $ 500 on your car again? forget it!!!" even though it's my money

Implying me to drive faster. Apparently he didnt care for the break in period. But good for me since I truly got to experience what the car can do. I went WOT and shifting 6k+ rpm up the the 3rd gear. I dont know if I got close to redline since I was in a business district hauling ass, didnt want to take my eyes off the road. Hit the freeway before you know it I was doing 105mph. Took couple breaths and slowed down since my heart was pumping with full of enjoyment. This car is awesome!! V8 sounded kind of quiet to me. It definitely needs alttle louder exhaust.

I did not have a problem one bit driving the 6MT. I've seen posts on here people having trouble driving the car smooth low RPMS. I thought the 6MT was perfect, I had no problem at all with it. Maybe its just the internet and people complaining about anything? I dont know..

I orignally wanted to get a 2010 STI since its an all around more practical car. I can take it snow boarding, put a stroller back there, easy to mod, etc.

Only problem is now I dont want to spend $60k plus for it. hehe. I can afford it but I'm kind of cheap, but my wife says lets get it! Maybe It will be my 30th bday present to myself this year!

Life is short. Enjoy it in good health.

Man, my wife said the former last June. But, my dumb ass declined (not really "dumb" as I needed to see how a few financial matters shook out). Well, they shook out just fine. Now, when I mention the M, she's more like the latter: "WTF, I thought you didn't want the M?. Now, you want the M?! Let's just wait a bit. Maybe the financial matters will shake back in..." OP, you'd better get that car, now!

Thanks guys.

My wife just wants me to be happy so that is why she said she wants me to get one. Because I loved the M3 ever since I started to drive 10 years ago. If I do get one I would like the updated 2011 model. So we'll see.

That is what we are planning for next year, but it seems so FAR off. The Mrs. makes a valid point that driving the M through Europe for two weeks will be awesome, but in the meantime, I'm driving my f@#ing, Toyota...

I made the same mistake in 1998 by test driving an M3. Wound up trading a dinan 3 for an M3/4. Now, it's like heroin.

My problem is that I treat my 335i like a garage queen and it is just a 3 series. I have a truck that I drive when the wx is bad and only drive to work once a week so I put very few miles on my vehicles. I am considering a 2005-2007 911 or an '08/'09 M3. I like the fact the M3 has room for 4 and a trunk. It is obvious that you all like your M3s but, what dont you like? Torque, gas mileage, transmission? I want to find a car that I like enough to keep for 8 years or more. Manual trans is a must for me. If I buy used, any concerns about the break in or just have a good ppi? Thanks for any insight.
Only downsides I can find in my first 1000 miles is the gas mileage and insurance cost compared to my 335i. BUT....I knew that before buying it, so it was not a shock. I came from a low MPG 540i (16MPG) before the 335i (23MPG) daily driving. Back to 16-17MPG with the M3.

It is amazing how the car is so easy and tame to drive in traffic, but it can quickly turn into a beast. FUN!!

You can buy CPO to take the risk of buying used. 6/yr 100K/miles warranty to protect against major issues.

I made the same mistake. I went with my gf at the time (now fiancee) to look at a 535 and I saw the M right in the front of the showroom. I started to look at it and the salesman offered a test drive. I said "sure". From there I was done. After test driving the M I told the salesman that we were actually there to check out a 535. So he took us on a test drive with the 535 but it was too late. The 535 was boring before we even got out of the dealer lot. I ordered the M3 the next week.

Thanks for the reply. Leaning towards an '08/09 M3. Maybe a 2010 if the economy turns around???

Chmura, have you not heard about the low-end torque issue:

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=324295

Just kidding man, I just wanted to reference that thread for some reason. Although, inside that thread is a lot of good information that gave me a good understanding of how to drive the M3. Toward the end, I posted links to other forums where owners of cars like the Corvette and the Audi R8 are not happy about their cars' performances either.

I had my new car narrowed down to the 328/335 and the IS 250/350. Then I saw the M3 on the lot....

....and the rest is history. Never thought I could love an inanimate object, but I love this car.

If you do go ahead with it, you'll have to make the gut-wrenching decision of what color to get. That was the tough one for me. Silverstone, white, black, blue, gray, red....

So they're all the same after all

That's why I buy before... say after.
