Modified matte grills installed today

I searched, but could not find a similar thread, so I figured I would post my scenario......

I installed the matte grills, but I thought that it looked a little cheap (strictly my opinion). I realized what I did not like about the stock grill was the vertical chrome slats.

So I switched the vertical slats from the matte grill to the stock one:

Put the modified grills back on the car:

I also found that as I was popping out the clips, if I inserted a piece of cardboard, it prevented the grill from sliding back into place. It only took a minute to take it out this way.

No sweat. I am sure that it is not for everyone. Just another option for the populace.

You know, no matter how many matte grills I see I just don't like them. You're right, they do look cheap! I like what you did there. Looks good!!

I think the chrome looks cheap.

So many American cars and trucks are just loaded with so much chrome. It just gets to a point where you can't take it anymore.

I never really understood why the hood vents and lower grills are matte black. But the kidney and side grills are chrome. It clashes too much.

+1 that's because chrome is cheap.

yeah, not my cup of tea either, but that's okay. we all have our tastes and preferences. i enjoy seeing how everyone customizes their cars though.

someone here on the forums got the carbon fiber grilles but put the stock chrome slats in it and it didnt look too bad.

i went with the basic matte black grilles. i wasn't sure i wanted to go that route, but given all of the problems people were having with the carbon fiber grilles bubbling due to engine bay heat, i decided to go with my second choice of matte black. looking back, i think i made the right decision. my car looks very aggressive and the apprehension i had about them looking "cheap" have gone away since i get tons of compliments on them.

Yes, I always like the look of the grills on IND's E90 M3 project car.

Reusing the chrome slats make it look better.

heres a tip, unclip the bottom grill first then work your way up. no need for cardboard.

+1. I'm think I'll be doing the same once I get my 1x1 CF grille.

The way msile did it reminds me of the lower models in Europe and other places, which have the chrome surround, but black blades.
