I thought they recharge in ignition I know my Harley Fob goes through batteries twice a year

Comfort Access fobs have a replaceable battery, non-CA fobs recharge in the ignition slot.

Don't feel so bad I ran mine through the washer. Surprisingly, after a few days it started to work again.
