Went from top of 3rd to 2nd I think in the 6spd...

So I was at the top of 3rd going into 4th and I don't know what the hell happened but I went to quick shift into 4th and my hand slipped and I think I went into 2nd. I lifted the clutch up and the revs shot up so I pressed the clutch quickly and rolled to the next red light. I also hit the gas at the same time so that could be why the revs shot up too. What my question is, is their any kind of safty system that would protect against the car engaging 2nd fully from the top of 3rd? At the red light the clutch felt a little soft but I hit a parking lot and drove around for a few minutes shifting between 1st-3rd and it seems fine but I just want to know.

Thanks in advanced.

If it's running fine then you're good, you almost money shifted it, that's not good. This is another reason why the DCT is better, sorry just had to say it

I said I think I did because the revs shot up when I missed 4th but like I said that could of just been from me hitting the gas thinking I was in 4th. I know I've been in a gt500 when the guy did go from the top of 3rd to 2nd and the car felt like you hit the brakes and started skidding, I've seen YouTube videos that looked the same. That's not what happen to me though so I wasn't sure, that's why I asked. I've been driving manuals 7-8 years. I'm by no means a professional and I don't claim to be, always willing to learn something new.

Just went on a 25-30min drive shifting and all and everything feels/sounds the same.

Yes I definitely agree with that! Ill be taking my "quick" shifts slower from now on until I feel like I have a better feel for this car. We got the car last Nov and its not a daily so I don't have a whole lot of seat time in it especially driving it that hard. Thanks for the info though!

If you are paranoid about damage (which I agree with others who posted that most likely there is none) any decent tuner can read your ECU log for over revs.

Nothing can stop a mechanical over rev. The control unit can only close the throttles and cut fuel and spark. We can read the freezeframe data, and have seen 8,900 on a few cars that are still running thousands of miles later. Sometimes things don't go downhill right away, but chances are you got lucky if everything seems fine.

If you're really paranoid do a compression test. Speaking of, how do you do one in this car? Is it possible with the usual simple tools?

Well, if you grab the knob, you can't avoid money- (or mis-) shifts.

I think a leak-down test would be more effective in this instance, since you could pinpoint where the air is leaking from. I doubt the valve is damaged in this instance though.

But yes, compression test would be done the same way as any other car.

Haha! The ONLY reason. You should start a thread on this subject. I don't think anyone has.
