Why did they bother with 6 gears on the M3? =)
I spend most of my time in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Why did they waste money on 1st, 2nd and 6th. BMW M division seem to have lost the plot. Add that to the hump and the flared arches and the M3 is obviously a dog.
Just sayin. (Just thought I would cover it off before Poleposition does. Watch out for "Why did they bother with paint?", "What's with seats in the new M3?" and my all time favourite "Why did they bother with a fuel tank in the new M3, it empties so quickly BMW may as well not have bothered?" coming to a thread near you soon.)

I know this thread is a joke but I honestly would like 6th gear to be a bit longer. Since it's really only an overdrive for the highway, 3000 RPM at 70 mph seems a bit raucous. I realize changing 6th would require changing the ratios of all gears but still...
Also, why bother with a speedo? Any driver worth his salt can drive by RPM alone. |

i actually rarely use 5th gear
i use 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th when accelerating then when i want to coast or just drive on a highway and maintain my speed i use 6th i wish 6th was a taller gear, to help with fuel consumption |

Not to start the infamous DCT/6MT war but the 7th on the DCT is quite tall, in fact it’s annoyingly tall sometimes, but hay I’m not complaining, that’s why we have 6 other gears to play with. So I’m a little surprised to hear your 6th isn’t tall enough.
And for OP, I know you're joking but back in the late 80s when I didn’t have money to fix my Fiat gearbox, I drove it for months and months on only 2nd and 4th (couldn’t get 1st or 3rd)
