Well this feature has to be one of my favorites in my M3 BUT…
When the bezel finally settles and the silver mark in the middle of the yellow zone aligns with the 8000RPM silver mark by that time oil temp is usually not even close to midline, so I end up basically neglecting the RPM bezel and using the oil temp as an indicator of when can I go crazy driving.
Also something I’d like to know and I’m sure (I mean I hope) no one tried it on his car. If you push the car cold and the redline is at say 6000 will the throttle cuts off at 6000?

I have wondered the same thing but of course never tried it. I would imagine it cuts the throttle where ever the redline is.

In almost every case I would agree with you. However, in this case that's being stretched a little I think you must agree.....

Asking questions rather than reading is in vogue. Questions are wonderful, but so is trying to learn on your own, IMO.

Neither do I, but I've read the manual; did so before going in to test drive since it's always better to know as much as possible about that which someone is going to try to sell you.

I do the same thing, I wait until the oil temp is up to temp before I push it.

I'm pretty sure that the engine doesn't move the actual redline, it will still let you go all the way to 8,300 even when cold.

The computer does move the actual redline down. I redlined mine when the "soft" redline was at 6k and the computer cut power at... 6k.

I agree. Luckily, they [BMW] make certain that we buyers of its products pay substantially so as enable it to be generous with digitized copies of all the owner's manuals for its lineup.
