Thumbs down bumper replacement_they want to drive my car.

bumper replacement_they want to drive my car.

getting my front bumper replaced with the same stock bumper - no front plate and no reflectors. long story short i'm not paying out of pocket. i'm getting it done at a certified BMW body shop. driving up to the body shop with my new exhaust everyone walked out to hear it.. immediately shut it off didn't want to show it off.

i made it very clear that they are NOT to drive the vehicle. the advisor there told me they have to drive it to the dealer to reset the codes after the replace the bumper -

i told them they are not to drive the vehicle and that I will bring it to the dealer after to reset the codes. I don't trust these people..

What do you think?

good decision especially considering that the car doesn't need to be driven to have it's codes reset. i've never heard of such a thing.

If you do not feel comfortable letting them drive your car you are in no way obligated to let them drive it... besides its your car and you have the final say... Curious as to what codes needs to be reset?

"you have no choice what do you want us to do, how are we going to reset the codes" me - "you're not driving the car where do I leave it?"

...tires are toast I'm not sure they're going to be able to make it very far

Had my bumper off the car twice. No codes need to be reset...

Tell them you will drive it to the dealer.

I've swapped between my OEM bumper and Molded OEM bumper probably half a dozen time now. Codes? BullF'Nshit. In fact, if they have an OEM bumper painted and ready for install, you should be in and out of there in an hour or two. Why do you even need to leave the car with them? Of course unless you're current bumper is f'd then that's a different story. But if that's the case your car shouldn't even be driven by them at all. There's no logical reason why they need to drive the car except maybe from the shop to the parking lot, vice versa.

Oh yea, the dreaded bumper replacement code. That is needed to prevent the car from rejecting the new bumper, otherwise the cars immune system may attack the new bumper causing it to fall off mid drive.

Hopefully the donor bumper was a good match.

What shop is this?

If you don't trust them, just go somewhere else.

wow! that looks good - look at the ferrari
so I spoke to a few dealers and they told me that sometimes they unplug the headlamps and it throws error codes after. I spoke with the body shop and they said that they wouldn't touch anything but the bumper and I'm now pleased to say that I'm convinced they will not be taking my car out for a joy ride ... but I will be! SOON

A long time ago I had a e46 328ci. I crashed the front corner, very lite hit, not much damage.

Took it to a shop in Burbank, CA. Assholes did something SUPER STUPID and ended up crashing a quarter panel, the other front fender, and breaking 2 rear wheels. Then, they delayed returning my car so they can cover up.

When I picked up the car, one entire side of the car was painted while the other was not. There was actually a line going down the center of my bumper and hood clearly showing that HALF was painted.

Out of control bullshit, I tell ya.

Really? I always let my friends drive my cars. I have insurance, and she has airbags. So far none of my friends have done anything stupid or hurt the car. They are very respectful and truly enjoy the time behind the wheel.
