Engine idle erratic (sometimes) after fueling

I have an E92 M3, and love the car, BUT... In the past month or so, I noticed what I can only describe as "erratic" idling when sitting at a traffic light immediately after a fill-up. I generally use Chevron or 76 fuel, and only use premium. It now happens most every time I fill-up. Sometimes it "chases" the proper idle, others the car completely stalls. More the former than the latter though. Once I go past the traffic light, things seem to settle out. I've never seen this other than immediately after the fill-up. Maybe I should just avoid stopping at that traffic light.

The first time in to the dealer, the service guys could not reproduce the issue. The second time in to the dealer, they were able to reproduce it and ultimately replaced a fuel system canister and idle control somethingoranother. After my next fill-up, the issue resurfaced and she's now back in the shop for a third time.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Mine has been doing this every so often, with no codes. It stalled twice. If I shut the car off and then re=start, everything seems perfect. I connected a scanner and the BT Tool cable and the engine is operating correctly. Like I said, no codes. Did you have any codes or the check engine light come on?

This has been going on with a few of the guys over on M5Board with the E60 M5s also. Been awhile now that a few of them have been chasing the root of the problem.

It is puzzling me, because there are no codes and after shutting the engine off, everything goes to normal and it doesn't do it again.

I believe this issue has been documented in another thread where there are more information. I suggest we merge them all for convenience sake. Also it seems there are more and more owners having this small "hiccup"

This is the most comprehensive and useful thread I've come across so far.

I am also having the same problem albeit with a bit of sputtering here and there upon start up. No biggie so far for the past 6 months or so. BMW has never been able to fix it. Also, if I drive off right away and don't let it sit, it never stalls or does the idle dipping.

No codes, no check engine light as well. Had the Idle Control Valve replaced and it was no good. I am pretty convinced its the fuel breather valve/Fuel vent Valve.

when this happen, did the person topped off when fueling? Wonder if that's relevant.

I topped off, but did not overfilled. And this only happens when the engine is fully warmed and I've driving it for a while. Especially on after a spirited drive. I wonder if it has to do with picking up some bad gas? Because right now, the car is driving perfect, like nothing happened.

I am having the same issue but have not brought it to the shop...

Check out this thread. Gpitts seems to have resolved the issue which you will get to on page 4. He was kind enough to send me the paper work from when he had his service done so that I can show my dealer when I bring it in...
