2012 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 revealed

We’ve known about it for months but finally the first official images and details for the new 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 have landed, and we’re the first to admit that we're all completely stoked. The GT3 RS line of cars are often described as the most sporting of the 911 models but in the case of the new 911 GT3 RS 4.0, virtually every dial has been turned up all the way to max.

With a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine on board and a serious lack of creature comforts, the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 is essentially a road going version of the 911 GT3 RSR race car--but with one major different, more power!
With no race category regulations to worry about, power in the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 has been dialed up to an even 500 horsepower, 45 horsepower more than the fully fledged race car and more than 50 horsepower more than the regular 911 GT3 RS on which it’s based.

Unique elements include the small canards along its front fascia, a large GT style rear wing, carbon fiber hood and trunk panels and riveted RSR-style widened front and rear wheel arches.

Prices in Europe are expected to start at 149,990 euros (approximately $217,350) before taxes.

Though this price may seem steep, considering that this is likely to be the last variation of the current 997-generation car before the whole 911 range is replaced with the upcoming ‘991’ 2012 Porsche 911, we think the asking price is completely reasonable for such an extreme beast.

This officially means the end of the 997. That 997 model was insane overall. One of the best looking Porsche of all time, especially after that ugly 996.

991/998 better be awesome. They have some good shoes to fill.

I would have normally flamed Porsche for inundating the market with 911 Special editions but this more than deserved to be made.

Is this an official release? If not, I'm a little skeptical because it doesn't have ceramics and the flarings look like a normal RS to me.

This may be the last version that comes exclusively in manual form because rumor has it the replacement 911 will get PDK option as well.

Those canards look absolutely useless.

Car is still ultimate/10 though.

correct me if i'm wrong, but RSR and cup cars don't have PCCB?
i hear PCCB is a real pain to maintain as you can't have it "chip" while mounting/unmounting rims, rotor replacement cost, etc.
good old MASSIVE steel brakes FTW!

Steels are perfectly acceptable for normal trackdays and club track use, PCCBs are overkill for the majority of users, though there are some who feel it's a necessity even if they never use the car in anger.

Love this car and also the normal GT3 RS. Saw one at the local dealership (It was in that deep grey, almost purplish/muddy color, with the reddish graphics) INSANE but worth the @$161,XXX

The RSR doesn't run PCCB's because the GT class only allows steel brakes. The LMPs, on the other hand, are equipped with carbon brakes.

I wish they would do a Caymann RS, it would be the best car Porsche makes, I guess thats the reason why they don't.

its a beauty alright. but i am not sure the difference between the 3.8 and the 4.0 is worth that much extra cash.

It's not just a difference of 0.2 liters of displacement. The internals are different and it is even more track focused than the 3.8 rs. It also has multiple Carbon Body panels. IMO it's a work of art and for me to beat on one of these, I'd have to own two or be rich enough to not care.
