Video from Shannonville Motorsport Park

I headed down to Shannonville this past Sunday for a open track day. The weather was perfect.

Only few people showed up , so we had serious no traffic open sessions.

My m3 did a awsome job , even with the half worn tires. It was pretty nice and controllable to drive.

What a fun car!

Here is the video from the track day

what set up do you have on the car? brakes, tires, edc, etc? I went there last weekend and my laps were consistently in the 2:12 to 2:14 range on the pilot supersports. Went home rather disappointed and underwhelmed with the car since last year in the 370z with yokohama advan ad08 tires I lapped in the 2:09 to 2:10 range. Could it be the tires?

My setup is completely stock with normal power, normal suspension, track control off settings and Michelin PS2.
What kind of tire pressure were you running the car? I usually set it to cold start at 31 psi and keep them at 38 hot. Or perhaps it was just the weather, however 2:12 lap time with Michelin PSS seems really slow since you manage to do 2:09 with 370z / advan ad08. How is your M3 running ? Any issues ? Are you comfortable pushing yours to the limit? It’s hard to tell why you did not improve your lap time with your M3.
But do not get disappointed with lap time. Track days are not about lap times. Lap times just come with the package. For example my fastest laps are always when I feel slow, and am comfortable. (by that time my brakes feels like sponge!) I really do not think about the lap time until the end of the sessions or end of the day. I only use lap times to show if I was consistent, or improving.

Good Luck and happy motoring on the track.

Nice video, thanks for sharing.

In one of the corners your speed reading was 0km/h. What setup are you using to film this? Any links to what equipment you are using?

Seems like you are chirping 2-3 shift on a few occasions. I'm guessing its the tires - well worn?

Hi Superfly, i am using Harry's lap timer(app) with Iphone.
Click here http://www.gps-laptimer.de/Home.html for more info (the developer is a also member here)
It is useful to see if the lap times were consistent or improving and much more. The speed is way to laggy to show its real time and not correct because it was using IPhones gps sensors. You can get a more accurate speed and faster reading if added gps and OBD II sensors.

" Seems like you are chirping 2-3 shift on a few occasions. I'm guessing its the tires - well worn? "

Those tires went through 4 track days and i will need a new set of tires soon.
Or i might use them for one more track day for drfting. ( just for fun )

Happy motoring!

Hi Stig,

You and i are almost same level so i would not go to too details but
maybe point out the little things,

Corner 1
You could use 4th gear. I find bit easier with 4th
(gain more control and speed) It's a personal choice

Corner 2 & 3
You could turn bit wider (make it in one turn)

Corner 4
You could turn bit wider (make it in one turn)

Corner 5
No Brake

Corner 6 (Double apex)
You could turn bit wider (make it in one turn)

Corner 7
Stay in 3rd gear (Do not down-shift to 2nd)

Corner 8 & 9
You could turn bit wider

Corner 10
You turn too soon
Put your tires over the right curve

Corner 11
Brake at 75M or 50M ( if you are brave)
Put your tires over the right curve

Corner 12
Balancing is the key

Corner 13
Good

Corner 14
You can open the gas bit earlier

And most of all turn the traction off and press the pedals bit harder because
you can have so much fun driving it.

Happy Motoring

MK.

PS There is a track day coming up on July 1st at Shannonville Let me know if you want to join us
