my grandfather told me this long time ago: "if you don't want your car to be broken, then park it in the garage and never drive it". Nahh, can't do that. go out and enjoy it while you are still young.

So after you go to Cali and add the next 6K miles you are almost going to need a new set of rear tires? Holy smokes!! So here's a question for everyone. Will BMW still cover the oil changes if there are 3-4 needed in one year? |

Daily driver here. 100 miles per weekday -- 50 to and 50 from work. My mileage is similar to Bubbles. Except when traffic is light and I get to play.
I haven't taken it on a long trip because I have an SUV to take the whole family. If I didn't have to take the family then I'd take the M3. It's that good. Cheers.

Drive mine daily so it's no garage queen. Even took a moderate road trip up and back to Jersey (Stanley Cup game) to accrue some break-in miles a few months back.
While my buddy who has less than a great back noted that the seats were so supportive he felt like he hadn't even been in the car very long, I missed my 6 series for that type of travel. I LOVE driving it, but I in my mind it's a poor long "road trip" car. So I'll drive it often, just not 6000 miles a month. Edit: IRT service, if you're under the mileage and the months, BMW will do unlimited oil services. Issue is that once it gets changed after break-in, you'd probably have to drive over 40,000 miles to get the computer to generate 3 oil change requirements in a year. Mine is sitting at almost 11K and It's 2 days shy of 6 months old. I took my winter set to the dealer on delivery day, and it's my DD. I take it everywhere.

If I reset at 75, my computer reads 25-26mpg, which I agree is optimistic. However, I calculate manually at fill up, which give me an ~ 22-23 mpg for highway trips. In stop-n-go driving, I get ~16-17 mpg. On the track ~7-9mpg.

I'm about to put a small 1K on mine this wknd driving to the Smokey Mountains and back with my girl. I bought my M3 vs. lease, so I am in no way really that concerned with mileage. However, I am looking out for a beater just to have for whatever. Right now the M3 is my only ride.
One thing I do is take an extra quart of oil with me on trips. I always ask for a quart when I'm at the dealer (only a few times) so I can top it off if the +1 quart indicator ever came on. I should also probably consider taking a jug of coolant too to be on the safe side. |

What's the big deal about driving it in the snow. It was designed in Germany, by Germans, to be sold to Germans...that drive in the snow. I've never understood not driving it in the snow. It's only an M3, not a friggin Veyron or anything.

Year-round, daily driver here - road trips and all. Her first road trip was 1,165 miles through her homeland!
Dedicated 18" OEMs with Dunlop snow tires go on the car ~November and come back off ~March/April (temps consistently above 45 degrees during the day is my trigger).

It's my only car, so it goes everywhere in any weather in any distance. Makes trips that much more fun when driving it.
