▀▄ eas | Jet Black M3 get the ESS VT2-585 treatment!

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
This Jet Black M3 is a beast. Simply by taking a look at the dark and aggressive exterior it would be safe to assume that there is something going on under the hood.

And you'd be right.

We recently installed the ESS VT2-585 supercharger paired with the Macht Schnell Bypass Track Pipes. This potent combination helped this M3 achieve 520whp on our dyno — a gain of 170hp. The OEM exhaust mod brings this M3 to life, creating a deep, loud and growly exhaust note that is sure to attract everyone's attention wherever it goes.

Modifications
- ESS VT2-585 Supercharger System
- Macht Schnell Gauge Panel/Speedhut Custom M gauges
- BMW Performance Carbon Fiber Spoiler
- Challenge Gloss Black Lip
- DPE CS10 Wheels
- H&R Sport Lowering Springs
- Macht Schnell Bypass Track Pipes
- OEM Exhaust Modification
- Vorsteiner VRS Aero Carbon Fiber Rear Diffuser Type II
- BMWPedals Extended Billet DCT Shifter Paddles

Nice job!

I just compared this chart with your other chart from a 550 kit. Same exact mods too, and DCT, 91oct. I was very surprised that both cars peaked at the same 520whp and very similar torque numbers also. The graph itself is also very similar. I just would think the 585 would make a bit more power than it did compared to the 550. It seems they are within 5-10 whp and wtq of each other through out the whole chart.

How much boost where these 2 cars seeing? Here is the link to the 550 which I am comparing it to: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=808212

Im gonna see if I can find any other of your charts to compare some more.

I agree, the VT1-550 and VT2-585 charts were very similar.

The VT2 M3 also did the numbers with approx 0.5psi less boost than the VT1, and will hold that power for a much longer period of time.

This is essential if seeing extended track use. The upgrade path is much easier since the cooling system is unchanged for VT2-585, 625 and 650 systems when additional power is desired.

Actually one critical point I should add to this. The VT2-585 equipped M3 is running 20" wheels, compared to the VT1-550 running the stock 19s.

Alright. So their are some factors; less boost, larger wheels. And the VT2 will probably be more consistant when driven hard from being intercooled.

Well in a couple weeks I'll be getting the 585 installed on mine. I wanna find a place to get it dynoed after so it should be a nice comparison since my car will have different variables. Full exhaust with x-pipe instead of OEM exhaust mod, plus it'll be on 93oct. Should get some nice results

Tom, can wheels size make a difference in the dyno?

Those were my old wheels. I dynoed with them and my HRE's at EAS and the difference was significant.

345WHP on the DPE's

369WHP on the HRE's

Nevertheless they looked incredible. I knew this car would be SC'd one day.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm actually at EAS right now buttoning up some final modifications on the car today. EAS has been great to work with and very accommodating. I can't thank them enough for their advice and help. The car is coming out just as I had envisioned. The sound, look and performance are exactly what I was aiming for. I am very happy with the overall outcome.

Here is a before and after dyno for your viewing pleasure:

Holy moly! Perhaps I should buy smaller tires to take advantage of my BBS FI!

Car looks amazing, love the rims. The 550 kit and 585 kit are very similar in power comparing dyno runs that I've seen but like one said the intercooled 585 is better equiped for those hot track days.

its amazing how much impact wheel weight, size, and center of gravity (moment of inertia) have on realized (wheel) horsepower.

would be awesome to see the same car dyno'd with a number of different wheels/weights back to back to plot a graph of wheel weight against horsepower.
