Police M3 owners?

Any police officers or other law enforcement M3 owners in here other than me? Active or retired.

I was trying to play incognito. I know LEO's are not well liked on this board or many other places these days. Sheriff here.

Hhmmm. So the cover is blown. LOL! It would be nice to have your point of view (as LEO's) on some of the topics discussed here.

I think it's awesome that there are police officers here that drive m3s. In all honesty though, what's more fun to drive? Your police cruiser or the m3?!?! Although the m3 is an amazing car, it has to be a lot of fun flashing your lights on and/or automatically causing every car in your vicinity to slow down when they see you. Hahaha!

There are some very fast Police crusers (I saw one at the Toronto International Auto show this spring) bet our M3 has no chance against one of them not that I wanted to be faster It is the law to pull over and stop when you see one in your rear view mirrow or ambulance and that is what we do.

Then of course there was this fine Sheriff south of the border with his radar detector behind the big old oak tree stopping this young lady .... once she rolled down the driver side window the Sheriff said ...

"Young lady I've been waiting for you all day!"

She replyed with some slight excitement in her voice ...

"Sheriff I came as fast as I could"

The Sheriff being a father himself of 2 fine young ladies first then let her go with a warning.

I myself hope never ever to get stopped by this friendly Sheriff

Its a shame you guys feel like you need to keep a secret haha. The actions of a few bad apples shouldn't spoil the bunch.

The biggest advantage of the police car over the M3 is that under proper circumstances you could drive it like you stole it and did not have to pay for maintenance, parts, gas or insurance.

The vast majority of the time you are driving sedately.

One other benefit was in-service driver training every two years.

There is always a subset of any population that will dislike law enforcement personnel. If someone is going to dislike me simply because I am a police officer (now retired) then I would not likely have that person as a friend under different circumstances.

Typically the people that dislike law enforcement officers are really upset over some law that they do not like and the face of that law is the law enforcement officer. I am OK with that and I will freely admit that I have written tickets for most, if not all, of the violations that are complained about on this forum.

^Well put, but the fact that I have no friends has less to do with my career and more to do with I'm an M3 owner.

Is it true if an LEO spots a radar/laser detector (in a state where legal) in the vehicle, there is no chance of a warning being issued? Just curious!

I support you guys, too. It's not an easy job, and knowing a few LEOs myself, I've heard some wild-ass stories. I definitely feel for you guys.

If you write me a ticket, you're doing your job, because I decided to do something against the law. No issues there.

I'm glad to see you guys have an appreciation for BMWs/Ms like the rest of us.

That was pretty much my standard procedure. If I stopped a car, regardless of the violation, and there was a radar detector or evidence of a radar detector in the car there was a near 100% chance the driver was getting a ticket for the violation.

The M3 is way more fun. Patrol cars are generally POSs. At least ours are.

as a traffic lawyer,i interact with the police a lot.i treat them with courtesy, and we generally get along well.i find that helps in resolving speeding cases, which are generally resolved by negotiation.for cases which are contested,i try the case hard, and there are usually no hard feelings at the end-we're both doing our job.most officers i encounter perform a hard job for not much money.there are some with a bit of an authority complex, but there are plenty of lawyers with that, too.

i am curious how officers feel about someone going fast in a high-performance car if the driver is otherwise being responsible-ie sober, not driving like an idiot, everything in good shape and up to date on the car,and a cooperative attitude.as you all know,it's easy to exceed the speed limit by a lot in these cars, without driving particularly dangerously.do you officers tend to cut people any slack in this situation, maybe thinking that's what you'd be doing if you had that car (or for you officers who have one,if you were driving yours ?)

Very good question, I wonder the same thing as there is not an Autobahn in the United States and driving high performance cars can be boring if you can not experience their performance...

And BTW it is great to know that there officers that drive and appreciate these machines...
