E92 M3 Windshield Tint Strip?
I'm curious if the 4-6 inch green "sun shade" tint strip on the 2008 e92's windshield has been done away with in the 2009-2011s? The reason I ask is because there are several 335 owners complaining of this...is the sun shade tint strip an unlisted part of a package by chance? Other reason I ask is because I had my windshield replaced last week by a dealer on my 08 alpine white e92 and the replacement did not have the strip, vs the old windshield having the green tint...both new & old windshield are made by saint-gobain and are OEM BMW glass with the right log etc...did I by chance get a 3-series windshield installed vs an M3 windshield? Are the part #'s any different between the 3 series and the M3?

I've never seen a E92 (3 series or M3) that didn't have the dark bank of tint across the top of the windshield. I know BMW is getting cheap and has eliminated it on the E90/E91 since 2009 and also on most of their other vehicles, but the E92 always has it.
I hate the look of many so called luxury cars that have done away with the tint band. Just gives any vehicle that doesn't have it a cheap economy car look, like an old Datsun. Some folks will say to just have a tint shop install a band across the top of the windshield, but to me that looks like something a 16 year old would install from JC Whitney. Looks out of place since the tint is much darker than the factory tint and there is no transition from dark to stock tint. Just a line. |

I figured
...thanks for the feedback, its not something you notice is missing until its missing. Sounds like the dealer installed a 3-series windshield on me on top of damaging the hood, passenger side pillar, and the passenger window tint. Sounds like I'll need to demand a "real" M3 windshield...they charged enough for the work!
...and my windshield saga continues |

Mine only has like an inch or two of a 'dark band', which is as good as nothing. And it's a 2008. I have my V1 as high as possible (touching the headliner), and it sits below it, perfectly visible from the outside. Unaccpetable on a car this expensive indeed.

My 06 E90 330i had the tint strip, and I had the windshield replaced in it once with an OEM BMW one and it also had the tint strip.
My 09 E90 M3 does not have the tint strip, and I remember reading posts about others not having it now either. It's not that you don't have a "real" M3 windshield; rather, I believe that leaving out the tint strip is just another cost-cutting measure employed by BMW.
