CHP Ticketing Practices
I just got a ticket on the 14 Freeway last Friday morning. I saw the guy parked on the side of the road after I came over a hill. I didn't think much of it because I keep my speed down on the freeway, but about a half mile later he pulls up behind me. His lights aren't on, so I'm thinking he just wants to get around me. No such luck.
So I'm kind of annoyed at getting pulled over for doing a speed that on most days will get you tailgated or run over by other drivers on the 14. But I figure I'll just take my medicine and contribute my extra money to the bankrupt state treasury. That was until I see that he wrote the ticket for 81mph! That was at least 6mph faster than what my speedo was indicating, and as everyone knows, speedos read about 3-5% high to begin with. Anyone else out there have an experience like this with CHP? I'm just wondering if this is a new unwritten policy with them or something. If I get a speeding ticket, I want it to be because I was having a little too much fun on some backroad, not calmly commuting to work! |

This is pretty scary.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

yes, they are not obligated to show you the radar/laser speed readings.I was pulled over one time by a very friendly police officer and he took the time to explain to me how the LIDAR worked he clocked me going 13 mph over and he even offered to give me a different type of ticket if I had too many points on my license, hah.

CHP followed me for 2 miles on the 55. Pulled me over and gave me a $160 ticket for not having front plates. California's desperate.

Most CHP offices in California practice giving tickets to people going 10MPH+ from the speed limit (do not start driving 10MPH over the speed limit on my account now), I am pretty sure the judge looks at it the same way, so he wrote 81MPH so you look more guilty, unfortunately many cops decide to be the judge also and make sure your guilty. I once was pulled over the by the same cop in the same month for no front plates, I didn't even get a chance to fix the first ticket, he wrote me down for a 2400VC which is "failure to correct." I went to the DMV, DMV lady printed the Vehicle Code for me and it clearly had something to do with some motor part not being fixed, I took this to court, the cop showed up, I showed it to the judge, then the officer turns around and tells the judge "he kept cursing me out every time I pulled him over" funny thing is, I always tell all my friends to be nice to cops, and I am always extra nice with them. But I guess judges do not like when you are a dick to the cops so she found me guilty, very unfair. As far as the 14 goes, that freeway is a death trap, traveling down hill South as it turns to the right there is always a CHP there with is gun.

I got a 75mph ticket on the 805N (65mph zone). Clear dry morning, 4 lanes not a single car in front, beside or behind me. I was slim pickings I guess.
Hit me with a fix-it for no front plate too. |

how do you fight that ticket?
that's exactly what i got.. going 10 over the posted 65 speed limit + no front plate. i got the front plate signed off but i have a court appearance for the speeding ticket. how do you fight it? i did the written declaration banking on my luck of cop not writing back, but i guess he did, so i made a court date. most likely he'll show up so i'm planning on just saying i'm guilty but ask the judge to lower the fine ($400 which is ridiculous for going 10mph over, but i do have 3 pts on record) advice very much appreciated!
