Sorry, I couldn't resist. MDM is essentially DSC light. It allows for some wheel spin before stability control kicks in and cuts power to the rear wheels. That's probably an oversimplified explanation, but thats essentially it.

You can set your DSC setting to "on", "off" or "MDM" under the M button settings menu.

I have mine set to MDM because there is no way I am turning DSC off, I'm too scared

mdm stands for m-dynamic mode. like others said it's a mode of dsc and basically help preset the car to a bmw "tuned" mode for spirited driving, or so they say

I have MDM set for my M-Drive setting for when my girl is in the car, but when by myself, the first thing I do is turn DSC off.

option should be in the iDrive menu... when you set-up the M button there should be an option.

i just played around with it and found it

Dumb question, but your car was cranked right. If not, you can't adjust all those settings.

Crank the car, press the little "voice command" button on the steering wheel and say "M Drive". You'll be taken to all the settings. There you will see everything. It may be dependent on having the "tech package" or not. Mine is a 2010 with every option, so I am not sure what is dropped depending on package.

MDM = M Dynamic Mode

...which is a mode of the traction control, DSC. It's the most forgiving without actually turning DSC off.
