Fantastic and well done!
This ensures the propagation of the enthusiast species! My father taught me how to work on cars at his side and I taught my daughter. She knows more about cars than almost any of her male peers. It is hilarious!!

Epic! Not only does working with vehicles help the kids to understand how things work, it teaches them about science too. I'm a complete cluster fuck when it comes to doing anything to a car but because my kids are interested in these I spend hours reading up on shit any man would know so I can show off to my boys.
I'm considered epically cool because I can change oils and fill up the window washer thingy. If anyone would know how much I fear screwing up in front of them and just how little I know about basic maintenance I'd be laughed at everywhere.

If I had kids I would definitely make sure they are around to learn basic car skills.
I didn't start learning how to do anything on a car until I was almost 20 years old, and I regret not learning sooner. Working on your own car is fulfilling, often much cheaper, and you know the job was done right. I will never take my car to a indy or dealership again, becuase no one treats your car as well as you. It's something I wish my pop passed down to me. I wont miss the opportunity to do so with my (hypothetical) kids! |

He will be my track side crew when he gets old enough. His name is Ayrton. I'll be his track side crew when he's old enough someday.

My 4 year old nephew is totally into cars and trucks, but no one in his immediate family has an ounce of enthusiast in their blood. It is my responsibility to bring him up properly. Plus, his small appendages are better for reaching into the nooks and crannies in the engine bay!
His 3 week old sister will be next, she's already got a hell of a grip!

My father made me work on cars with him when I was young. I can't thank him enough for doing that. Any work that needs to be done on any of my three cars, I do myself. Aside from warranty work, obviously. When the time comes, I plan to do the same with my kids.

Sure my friends hate me for making them drive around in rally county while knowing that if they fuck up while my babies are in the car, they die. But then again, I've taught their girls how to knit and how to braid their hair (oil change took 5 minutes of study time, braiding a week) so they win.

Awesome. Whatever the hobby, it's great that you can share it with your kid. Cars just happen to be practical.
My dad gave me sports. Now I teach him car stuff. |

It was not something I learned from my Dad either, so I'm self taught and trying to make sure my kids don't suffer the same fate. My oldest (20) knows the most and has passed me on a few fronts already, but my daughters (17 and 15) know the basics and are always willing to lend a hand. My smaller people (5 and 2) are a hoot and while they can't really "help" yet, they do enjoy spending time in "Daddy's Garage" - so much so that we installed a drive in to entertain them when a brake job just won't cut it. See below.

Thanks. I actually left one off - our baby turns 1 next month. That's my six pack. Good news is I have a decade off from 15 to 5 to recharge the college funds - gonna need it. . . .

My dad gave me bad genes. That's about it. Heh. (Oh, and a bad example.)
