Would you buy this M3?

I asked the dealer why it's so cheap, and they said it's because nobody that goes to Chevrolet is interested in that particular car. So they are selling it at a loss. Something sounds fishy, especially this part:

"WAS $47,991, GREAT DEAL $9,700 below NADA Retail. Heated Leather Seats, Premium Sound System, Convertible Hardtop, Rear Air, Alloy Wheels, Overhead Airbag, Heated Mirrors. 4 Star Driver Front Crash Rating."

It's got low miles, and a great color combo. The carfax indicates an accident, and it has an accident report available. I haven't seen it yet, but the dealer says it was a "parking lot incident" and thankfully the guy that owned it then was a "body shop guy."

Here's the link to the autotrader ad:

What do you think?

I would stay away anytime the word "accident" has been mentioned with a potential car purchase.

i would say start by going to actually look at it, drive it etc... if it feels and looks good go from there. Do you like the color combo, stick shift, no nav, no competition and a convertible? If so then have auto check.com or similar check it out. Maybe a body shop would even look at it for you. We have all driven cars that we wrecked in our lifetimes... where they junk from there on out. Mine wasn't. I always think it takes a certain type of dealer to handle a special car like that, in turn a chevy store might have to sell based on discounted price. Good luck!

that price isn't a deal, it's maybe on par with what an 08' should cost.

It's reduced because it was priced too high originally. His story doesn't make much sense.
Agree it's not a spectacular price, esp with a accident history of some kind.

I disagree. I'm selling a car right now that had a minor fender bender that only damaged the rear bumper cover but it shows up on carfax because the asshole who hit us was an illegal without insurance so we needed a police report. The bumper cover was replaced for $300 by a professional body shop but now we're stuck with a carfax that says rear end accident. Just because it says accident doesn't always mean avoid it!

Nice interior and low miles but the price is about right for an 08 with the primitive transmission and no other options to speak of. The 18s are hideous, no nav, no EDC and the stereo might be "premium" for a Chevy but it's not the "premium" stereo on the e9x m3.

From reading the Carfax, I'm not sure how the salesman would know the details of the accident, but I wouldn't be worried too much about the "minor damage". However, I think you could do better for not a whole lot more money.

Completely agree with your logic in that sense, but the majority of consumers tend to vacillate at the thought of a car they're going to spend major bucks on, being in any accident ... you might have known it was a minor rear end collision, but someone who's viewing the carfax may interpret otherwise.

How can you tell that it's not the Premium sound by BMW? What are the tell-tale signs?

In your other post on this subject, the response is confusing because a thread was linked to with a non-premium speaker pic masquerading as a premium speaker pic. So to reiterate...the yellow cone paper with silver guard is what the premium speakers look like. Even with the offset in this car's pics you can see that they're not the premium ones.

To this particular instance, I also applied some common sense as the car is a complete stripper. If even permitted by BMW, I can't imagine someone speccing the premium sound without iDrive as some of the premium sound controls would be awkward without that interface.

+1, always drive a car and get a feel for it. Make sure you know what your options are if something ever came up that you were 'lied' to about. I had my rear bumper replaced and then a couple weeks later I had to get it painted again cos some mug swiped the corner. Also had a blown engine 5 weeks in. What does this mean? I don't look after my car properly? Not at all.
