Which vehicles support all forms of data recording in M Laptimer?
Vehicles can record all data with the latest Professional generation of
navigation system, available in selected models since July 2012.

The following vehicles equipped with an older generation of the navigation
system do not support recording Throttle, RPM, and Fuel:

1 series*
3 series*
5 series
6 series
7 series
X3
X5
X6
M5
M6

* Recording Throttle, RPM, and Fuel may be supported for certain vehicles
of this model

Works on my M3...

I tried it out this weekend as I drove around to see how it would work. Pretty cool....

Having run ghost mode on my sim, I can attest that it's a little dangerous as it is always pushing you to better your time. I just hope this doesn't get used inappropriately by intermediate students (know enough to be dangerous) at Driver's Education events that have been given liberal solo leave. I could see it leading to serious red mist and incidents if not used appropriately.

I recently downloaded and used the app at a local Pocono event. One of the best free apps for the track. Lap times, G-force, throttle, braking RPM range. Love it!

And this is different from people:
  • using classic stop watches
  • AIM Solo dedicated track devices
  • iPhones using Harry's Lap Timer
  • GoPro cameras (so many it looks like a Russian shrimp boat off Wash DC)
  • etc. etc. etc.

Can you review the data files in any other programs on a computer or just upload/download and share these to review on the iPhone or in the car?

The file is proprietary and can not be viewed with any other tools/products.

I have run it in parallel against my AiM Solo DL with 4 track days (Same Track). The difference in times between the two is typically +/- .3 seconds. The gap always seems to be +/- .3 and never less. The best part is comparison an analytics between two laps/drivers.

The binary format might be proprietary, but it's easily reverse-engineered.
Here is one of the variables coming from the sample file of the Performance Center that comes with the app:

There is quite a bit of work to make something useful out of it. But I'm certain that a CSV converter wouldn't take too long to put together.

Export to CSV and emulate the AiM file format and you will be golden with the telemetry overlay apps like Dashware and Race Render.

If we could pair the ///M Laptimer with video from this, then, well, it would be awesome:

How do you export the files to a CSV so they can be used in Excel. How do you also emulate the AiM file?

Awesome app, but BMW M Laptimer stopped working last week when I updated it to version 1.2. It connects for 2 or 3 seconds and then disconnects. Previous version was working perfectly.

Is someone else having problems with the new version 1.2?

Thanks

I assume you are using an emulator to get the CIC to work? If so then most emulators including the Chinese ebay units also block the vehicle's speed data from going into the CIC as an easy way to enable video in motion. The downside is that your M App can't get vehicle speed data either. If you have a Chinese emulator you can unsolder a jumper on the board to disable hardware video in motion and allow the speed data to get to the CIC (not my picture but apparently the forum blocks links...).

If you still then want VIM you can re-enable it using coding.

I did many laps but always speed is recorded as 0kmh and there is no other data available as the app thinks the car is stationary.

When i review the recording on the iphone only the consumption field is shown as "Not supported by vehicle".

My specs are:

-08 E93 with retrofitted CIC/Combox with 6FL, 6NF and 6NR
- i am using iPhone 5 Connect Cradle (tried also with apple cable, no difference)
- Combox is at latest version 1006
- iPhone 5 with iOS 7.0.2

hey guys, as far as I can tell, I have BMW Apps (I have the option in my I-drive), and I have the app on my I-phone, but I can't seem to get it to work. I have tried the USB in the glove, and center console. Which one is the correct port?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I see a few people who're saying they have the BMW Apps on their E92 M3 2011. Mine was manufactured in around September 2010. However, I don't see the BMW Apps option. Was there a software update that I need to do?

Bumping an old thread as I'm trying to reverse engineer this...

So far I have managed to decipher throttle, RPM, location, distance traveled, steering angle. Couldn't figure out the G-sensor and consumption as I couldn't find a measurement unit that fits. I really need to drive in a circle to trigger some other data that wasn't recorded when I drove one way. Don't know if anyone attempted to work on a converter as I see a graph of RPM vs Time posted

Any plans for this App to be available in Android Systems

I bet half the world is using Google. I find it hard to believe they haven't or will not develop this for androids systems. Would work great with my Note.

Hey guys, I can't seem the find the option for setting a start/finish point on a recognized track. I've used this at both Mosport and Watkins Glen. In both cases, the starting line was wrong. How do I change this?

Also, for those of you that have used this and Harry's Petrolhead or Grand Prix, any comparisons? It seems as though the M software records more inputs, but lacks segment times and video (at a minimum). Has anyone tried running both Harry's and the M program concurrently?

I ran both on the 17th of January 2015 at Texas World Speedway. I've looked at Harry's results and they are spot-on and appear to be solid.

Just about an hour ago I pulled the iPhone out of the car and looked at the M Laptimer. First of all, the GPS "track line" of ALL of these (four sessions) is considerably "off". Three track sessions are pretty screwed-up, with probably 50-foot left-right variances from the real paved track. But one of the four sessions is absolutely, completely farcical. So, based on this, I'd say every piece of data is suspect. The weather was almost zero clouds, and nothing should have interfered with the BMW-iPhone-Cradle's accuracy.

See picture of the fourth awful tracking. I mean, seriously, how frakked-up can this be? It's like I was drinking and tracking... LOL.
