one more question about M3 DCT? "N" or "D"
When you stop and waiting for signal, would you switch to "N" or just Keep it on "D" , which way is good for the Gear Box when you waiting for signal?

DCT is smart enough to know what to do. Leave it in D, even on an incline. It will effectively hold the car in neutral until you apply the gas, and hill assist will hold the car on an incline for up to 2 seconds with no brake or gas applied.

If you want something to do, put it in manual mode and go drive the that sucker! D mode is only for the ladies, while drinking your cappuccino, bad traffic or if you're injured. Besides, last I remembered, D TO N or N to D took to long in my book. It might be risky to be doing that at red lights.

What the OP should do is drive it like it's meant to be driven and stop worrying about it. It's probably worst to be switching in and out of N than it is to leave it in N.

But of course I would apply one of the (parking) brakes if its a long wait. Otherwise if its a flat surface, when you come to a stop. In D, it won't move and drive the car forward. It won't push the car forward like in a manual when in gear.

N to D didn't take much longer than N to 1st in a MT. Quote:

Why put unnecessary wear-and-tear on it by shifting into N? Also, it's a bit of a safety risk -- if you needed to quickly get out of the way (i.e. car behind you has a braking problem, ambulance needs to get by, etc.), you'd lose time getting it into drive. And if you were to get hit from behind, being in neutral means the car would get pushed further.

Dparm - I don't think it'll put any wear on it but rather reduce it like it would in a MT. The concern about getting caught off guard and needing to accelerate is no different for a MT in the same scenario.

The car knows what to do. Try to pay attention one of these days and you can feel the car going into neutral while it displays D on the dash. I feel this when I am rolling to a stop without the brakes applied about the same area a MT would stall if the clutch was not engaged. |
