///M Cars brakes = 1 piston

Ok how do they do it, how do M cars 1 piston brake systems' design equal the performance of other more powerful 6 piston brake systems?

the ///m brakes are great but i really don't think you can compare to a true 6/4 setup. on street driving you won't notice much but on a real track it will make a huge difference. yea the m brakes are fine on track but 6/4 . csls can go up to 16 piston

Brakes can only do so much, people think if they have those 6 piston brakes they're going to stop better with street tires.
Your gonna need racing compounds if your serious about stopping power.

M brakes aren't that great compared to some other brands, they are grand for street and fast driving but pure trackdays will require something better than what BMW supply you with.

Now this is not to say that there is many brands out there that supply their cars with brakes capable of track work, Porsche springs to mind and Ferrari but few others.

Pads help to a degree but you really will need to fork out a few thousand on some quality brakes if you are seriously into trackdays, but then you already knew that.

They don't - it's a frequent complaint about the M-cars in most reviews. This is one of those inexplicably quirky things car-makers sometimes do, like Corvette sticking with leaf springs so long, or Ford still sending out Mustangs with drum brakes.

The piston size usually plays the most valuable role, the 1 piston in the M brakes are probably equal to the size of the 6 pistons put together on another brake

Because the number of pistons has nothing to do with the quality of brakes, it's a penis substitute that's all.

braking distance has a lot to do with the car's weight too, thats why mercedes amg have 8 piston in the front and still don't do well when it comes to stopping power

It's called friction. Which, as I understand it, has nothing to do with the number of pistons. Brake pads on rotors are what stop your car.

I would not say M is better than after market brand. but, # does not equal stopping power. Size and how much pressure the piston can push is the key.

Wait, don't' forget the one thing that also contributes greatly to stopping and braking power... you pads. Its what changes the performace of the braking system depending on what use you need it for; circuite tracking, every day or x-track.

lol thanks for the replies guys, well most of the stuff mentioned above is known or obvious. I was hoping for some technical articles or diagrams of the ///M brake systems.
