Spring Mods: Number 1 of 4
Like many on the forum who put up with a shit winter, here's the first of what happens when you get bored and can't drive your car every day - absolutely influenced by all the flippin time I had to read the forums and see what everyone else was doing. I swore the car would remain bone stock but.....whatever, it didn't work.
So here's the first of 4 (or so). Decided to take her to the track this year (June with my dealership Budds BMW, Oakville - Mosport and then with a bunch of really great people at Watkins Glen in August). Dedicated track wheels and tires were in order so the search was on. Was all set on Volk TE37's from Ilia at IND in Mag Blue (would have looked real good I suspect) but a fellow Cdn - Tuner1 in Calgary - had an awesome set of Rays Strahlens up for sale last month and I couldn't resist - price or looks wise. These were pretty limited production from what I gather and were made for the M3 - hub centric, MBadge, 19x9.5 w. 23 offset front, 19x10.5 w. 23 offset rears. Sort of plain looking but light enough for the track and easy to clean. Then off to Ben at The Tire Rack for the RE11's (255/35/19 fr and 285/35/19's rear) which I pondered for a couple of weeks before buying....and reading and researching, etc. Was worried about the fit, particularly in the rear, but no issues after the install the other day. The rear is a bit bulky looking IMO but for the track, I don't mind. The staggar is more than the OEM 20 mm but in reality, they're close enough and I'm not that good a driver to worry about the extra width on the rear pushing the fronts towards too much understeer. BTW...I installed these on Saturday and took them out for a really good drive in pretty cold weather (but with sunshine to heat up the roads, my version of heat cycling, then let 'em sit for 24 hrs). Wow....very impressive but stiff ride. DSC kicked in much much less than it would have with the LM60 winters or heaven forbid, the PS2's. Looking forward to them being even grippier and softer when track weather arrives. All the best everyone (and thanks Tuner1 and Ben) - Mark Here's what they look like. Next up....mods 2, 3, 4 and.....within a couple or so weeks. |

Nice wheels I really like the M badge.
I love your car and its one of my favs, have you done a clear bra or are you taping up for track? would hate to ruin that nice paint. But for a dedicated track set why not get 18's? |

Agreed (and I appreciate your honesty, honest!!), but again, these are for the track. OEM GTS 359's will be back...soon.
Clear bra'd from the start brother, wouldn't be without it. And the 18's I was intending to get (read afford vs what I really wanted) wouldn't work with the rest of the stuff. |

Oh God no!! 1/4 that "slightly used" from Tuner1. That's why I couldn't resist. Fit, finish, quality etc is top notch and I couldn't have even come close without spending double that. I'll gladly put up with the "so so" looks for 2 or 3 days a year and in between, the black 359's are soon going back on - honestly can't wait!! |
