Why start with the animosity? No brand whore here, just pointing out interesting facts about a new car to a forum of enthusiasts. Sheesh.
12.7 1/4 mile? Are you saying a tuned 335 can't run a 12.7 1/4 mile? There's tuned 335s running 11s and 10s. Maybe you should do some more research. Not worth arguing because you're clearly in the wrong. Sorry you bought your car a year too early bub.

Sorry, let me just clarify, I was trying to say it doesn't understeer because of the transversely mounted engine, it's because of the FWD baised AWD system. Unfortunately almost every car is setup to understeer from the factor for safety reasons, but a good driver can eliminate that problem in a 335i or 335xi but probably not the CLA. And understeer = no fun

Swap the little dinky 26psi turbo out with a nice Comp or Garrett and then we can talk...

That motor must be more strung out then a Crack whore. What's funny is I made more power out of a 1.8 litre 4 banger (well it was bored to 1.9). I drew 450awhp out of a true Awd Audi A4. All it took was an insanely big turbo and a motor rebuild.

Considering that plenty of people (with the same mods as me) are sub 4 seconds to 60 (the CLA needs 4.2) and get through the 1/4 mile as fast as 12.1 seconds (12.7 for the CLA), that's a pretty dumb statement to make.

I never said anything about track or slalom and was strictly talking about straight line performance. When the owner of that car himself tells me that mine pulls harder than his, that might not be a bad indicator either.

Lots of insecure 335 owners here. Seriously, it's ok to be able to compliment a different car you know. The AMG is probably faster than my Cayman too. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I think the CLA 45 AMG is a compelling vehicle. I love the looks except for the "melty ass." Looks fine at night with the tail lights, but during the day not so much. Rear end looks okay at best for me. I might warm up to the looks as time goes on.

It's legitimately quick from the factory and I wouldn't make too many negative assumptions about the handling and dynamics. It is an AMG vehicle after all and last I checked, that name hasn't been watered down like Audi has with the "S-Line" or how BMW has begun to put the "M" badge on more things.

That 2.0L turbo from AMG has among the highest specific output for a production I4 motor. Pretty amazing stuff. A good driver should be able to manipulate the front-biased AWD and get it sending power to the rear wheels for more spirited driving with the right throttle/steering inputs, no problem.

I'd honestly have trouble deciding if it were me. It's not exactly what I'll be shopping for when I plan on being in the market again though. I'm looking for a bigger vehicle with more luxury and not a high strung car with a comfort mode setting. It's pretty much between a lease for the F30 335i or the X1 xDrive 35i for me. That's still a while off though.

It's a cool car, but to be so high strung in factory form makes it pretty boring for us that want to make quick & simple upgrades like we can do with a n54 car... I think the unwritten turbo vehicle owner rule is "extra 100hp for cheap/easy"

I may be mistaken, but I read somewhere that an aftermarket company has already tuned one to over 100+ hp and torque on the stock setup. Plus if you think about it guys, this is in hopes that the engine can handle more, every automaker will want to get the best bang for the buck. So even for them, they don't want to bring to the market a car that will break down every other month and have to fix it under warranty. Another thing is they have to pass federal emission regulations and all that funky shit. So in reality, I think that motor can handle more. Definitely toss in a better more efficient turbo and some meth and you got yourself a fast merc.

A small displacement engine strapped to a big turbo... It seems to me like turbo lag would be quite bad in that car. Add that to the fact that it's a FWD based car (it only starts sending power to the rear when the front wheels lose grip, and still can only send 50% max to the rear). It seems like a pretty bad receipe to me aka torque steer machine...

The day of big N/A gas guzzlers is gone my friends. I don't think we'll ever have cars like the C63 AMG

Yup exactly that. That motor is built with all the best inside or at least mostly the best. So it can handle more. Sucks that it isn't manual. Definitely is a force to be reckoned with once tuned.

Although, I'd still take an n54 over it anyday because of the luxury immenities the bimmer has versus that merc.

i definitely hear you guys, all with valid arguments, but that front definitely caught my eye. i didn't really inspect the rear so i'll take a look when i have the time to go in.

w/ j_vang providing those quick upgrades shows potential in this 4 cylinder.

and alot of you guys are talking about "maneuvering, understeering, FWD..." i don't think all of us necessarily drive aggressive all the time except for that one bend in the road or that feeling of "oomph"

plus i live on an island..with only ONE BMW and Mercedes dealership. so you guys can just imagine their markups due to no competition!

Exactly this.. 26PSI Boost, and even still it is rated at 355HP @ 6000RPM and 332ft-lb TQ. You can easily do a couple mods to surpass the CLA.

Keep in mind this is a 4banger, talk about MAXED OUT, and this is out of factory. And people think the 335i's are a liability to keep after warranty... LOL. You couldn't pay me to keep this car a day out of warranty..

Also for the record, I had a benz and I think they are amazing machines. I would go back without any hesitation, but what they did with the CLA AMG is uneasy.

I agree. Its probably AT LEAST as good a system and understeers same or less than x drive . A lot of closed minded fanboys here.

Sorry , didnt see you were tuned. Having said that, anybody can go fast in a straight line so thats really only 1/2 the package IMO .Spend $500+, put foot to floor, hang on. Did you do coils too?

No worries. You're forgiven

Just ordered my kw's yesterday and they should get here this afternoon

For the record, by no means do I hate mercs. I'd drive a c63 amg in a heartbeat! To me the cla just looks like a cls that was t-bones on both sides at the same time.

I agree, it looks like a cartoon car. Bigger wheels and a little lower might help but.......................Once you get coils on your car it will be awesome. I drove an x drive before I got my e92 (sport susp) and hated it. Youre laughing now.
